"College Students BEWARE of the Rat Den from Hell that is Sylvania Gardens I have lived in all sorts cheap places (including a shack in the jungle that was home to giant spiders and lizards) so keep in mind I am use to living struggles. However, no place I have ever lived has even come close to the awfulness that is Sylvania Gardens. My fiance and I are both grad students in the area,I go to UPENN and he goes to Thomas Jefferson, we moved from out of state and found Sylvania Gardens online. We saw it was being advertised as an affordable place for college students to live and we thought it would be great for us and our non existent budget. Oh how naive we were. We quickly realized we were some of the only students in this entire apartment complex about a week after living there. When my fiance entered the the apartment for the first time it wasn’t even clean. After one month of living in this apartment the cold water in the bathroom sink stopped working, pipes started to leak, the stove fan never worked, the fire alarm started having issues, and one of the windows wouldn’t close right. Not to mention a family of rats started moving and partying it up at night. All of this was pointed out to management several times however, in the entire year we lived at this place not one of these things were fixed. We wanted to be a little firmer but we literally heard the maintenance guy tell our neighbor to F- off after repeatedly asking for something to get fixed, so like it wasn’t really in me to challenge this dude. We had so many sketchy neighbors too it was impossible to feel comfortable. We had neighbors knock on our door for loose cigarette money, we had a drunk woman try to enter our place at 3:00 am in the morning several times, and you couldn’t go down the hall without hearing some sort of fight. The apartment always smelt of cat urine, dank weed, and sadness. So finally we decide ok enough is enough our lease is over let’s get out and never look back. So we find a great new place start moving our stuff and in the process of moving we get burgeralized. Our computer, our backpacks, textbooks and one very nice broom all gone. The person who stole all our stuff even took a nice smoke break in our kitchen since we found lose cigarettes in the sink. We reported this to management and like nothing was done literally NOTHING. We asked to see footage of the security cams and apparently someone broke in and “deleted” all the footage. Which like is the sketchiest thing in the world. I asked around the neighborhood and apparently this sort of thing has happened to other people at Sylvania Gardens before. So in conclusion if you love yourself, like yourself, or even if you are struggling with yourself at least respect yourself enough to not move here. I promise if you do the research you will find a better place to live and be so happy you did. Our new renting company is amazing our new apartment finally feels like a home and I have never been happier to move out of a place in my life. Just say NO to Sylvania Gardens you deserve better!!! Ps. Peppy I’m sorry I actually really liked you and like it’s not your fault you worked with a lot of irresponsible people who don’t appreciate you. I saw you always counseling folks you should quit and be a counselor I think you would be awesome at it."
"Very nice apartment complex. Management is on the ball and always more than willing to make you happy. I would recommend these apartments to anyone needing an affordable place close to upend and center city."
"I've been renting from Berger Properties since 2011 when I moved to Philadelphia. I was living in Ohio at the time looking for apartments to move in and someone that would work with me. Berger Properties were the ones that worked with me and helped me get my apartment. There is NO pet deposit or monthly pet rent, they are flexible landlords. I haven't had any problems with my apartment and never had an issue when I lived at University Court. All I have to say is that it has been pleasant living here and I recommend it to anyone. It's affordable, close to public transportation, nice neighborhood, and close to coffee shops, banks, gas station, food co-op, etc. Totally worth it! They are awesome. Daniela Mercado"
