"As the owner of an older home, there are always a number of projects to be done and I was optimistic about having found someone to check those off now and in the future. Unfortunately I can't recommend Davidson's Handyman Service, and since I found him through Google, I'd like to save someone else the same experience. The good: Chris is very responsive via email, always on time, has reasonable rates, and I didn't hesitate to trust him with my credit card to buy materials. The bad: I asked him to add a storm door into an existing doorway. He measured the opening, came back to confirm his measurements for his own purposes after we agreed to go ahead with it, and then did what you see in the photos. The "ceiling" created because the doorway is extra tall due to a transom consists of two pieces of wood nailed together at an odd angle with very obvious gaps. He cut a hole into the door's brickmold to accommodate the storm door handle, which is problematic aesthetically and functionally. The door is clearly too wide. There's broken brick behind the storm door frame, which would be forgivable if it were the only issue. I expressed my dissatisfaction with this work, offered suggestions on ways it could possibly improved, and said I either wanted to return this door and install a smaller door that fits within the door frame or just return this door. Chris told me we couldn't return the open door, but offered absolutely no options on how to make it look like a fairly standard install rather than a bad DIY. His only input was to discount the labor fee, still leaving me with a badly installed $300 storm door that I paid for. He agreed to "take a look at his schedule" to return at a later date, but it has unsurprisingly been more than two weeks with no word. In the meantime I've had other companies look at the door and have been advised to start over with a smaller door. They said "it seems to me that the best route would be to replace the door. It's unfortunate that the wrong door was installed poorly. We could certainly make what you have work by removing the trim that was cut out for the handle and replacing and finishing the header beneath the transom in a way that looks nicer and doesn’t have holes, but you will always have a door in place that was not right for the space and may continue to look incorrectly installed." I will unfortunately be purchasing a second door and having someone else re-do the work that's been done."
