Reviews of Blue Mountain Learning Center
"Nice slopes, too icy, lesson was a waste of time. Came here in December with friends. I have nearly zero skiing experience (I did a beginner lesson 5 years ago), so I decided to take a beginner lesson and then get on greens. I expected the lesson would give me more understanding of proper technique than trying to figure it out on my own and that instructors would answer my questions and point out my mistaked (which was my experience 5 years ago). I was wrong. I got assigned to a group consisting of 4 kids (5-7 years old), their parent and me. There were 2 instructors (I assume the second one was a trainee). Instructors focused completely on kids and built the lesson around them. Instead of learning the details of how to ski my group spent a lot of time listening to kids being excited about putting on a boot or making a pizza with their skis and the instructor cheering for them. I mean, I'm happy for kids having a great time, but for me being assigned to this group was a waste of my time. I tried asking specific questions about posture, making turns, stopping, getting up, feeling of the boot fitting, etc. but the primary instructor was focused on kids only and the secondary had very vague answers. One typical example – the instructor spent quite some time asking our group “what’s the most important thing when you ski?” I hoped we’d finally get some useful information about technique, but after forcing each member of the group to give the answer, the instructor finally said “the most important thing is to have your smile on”. After the lesson I took 5-10 rides through the school’s area, which was too short to get an actual practice. There was no option to get higher in the beginners area (it seems like there was a second conveyor belt lift but it wasn't working). So I took a chair lift to Paradise thinking "what could possibly go wrong -- I got all training I could in scope of that lesson". Following the instructor’s advice, I sure smiled a lot while struggling on the green after the lesson because instructors gave me zero useful information. It took me a while to get down as I was unable to make turns on steeper slope. I’m still the same inexperienced newbie, this lesson was a waste of time. I’ll try to finish this review with something good: there were almost no lines for rental pickup, staff at the bar was nice, slopes are beautiful (although they got really icy by the end of day)."
"I would have gave it 5 stars but their website gives the option to buy multiple tickets at once but in reality you can only put one ticket a time in the cart. Annoying to figure out, guest service had to help. Other than that the lines weren't so long when I went at 7pm. I had fun overall, really cool light displays and fire pits to keep warm. I enjoyed it a lot :)"
"I've been going to Blue mountain for over 30 years since it was called Little Gap and they didn't allow snowboarders at that time. The mountain will always be one of my favorites! The only problem now, like everything else , it's become way too expensive and they always give the excuse about staffing and they don't open enough lifts to keep the lines short. We go to the mountains to ski and board, not to wait in lines like we are at an amusement park!!"
"First time snow boarding for 2 out of 3 boys. They had a blast! Tired and sore but looking forward to another day on the slopes. Weather is a little warm, but beautiful."
"Outdoor seating with fireplace is nice, but waiting in line for tubing is unreal. The kids only got to go down 3 times in 3 hrs. All hills should be open with large crowds."
