"I called Tinsman Brothers for a price on some building materials. When I arrived a few days later to pick up the order, the price was suddenly significantly higher. When I showed Will Tinsman, the owner, the email with the price quote, he said that the price had gone up in the last week, and he could not honor the price quoted - everything has gone up because of the pandemic. I told him that I had driven an hour and a half, and he still was not willing to honor the price in fact, he did not care that I had just wasted $60 on gas and three hours of my time. I would NOT recommend doing business with Tinsman Brothers."
"Highly recommend Tinsman's. Excellent customer support! We placed a very large and very short notice order and they managed to have everything ready for us by the following morning for pick up. Bill was available to us for any minor change in our order or any questions. Great family owned business!"
"I’ve driven by Tinsman’s for years, but have never had the pleasure of utilizing their services. However, today my wife and I met Bill Tinsman, who helped us out with some repurposed scrap wood that we will be turning into smaller planter boxes and other garden related items. Had such a great experience, and my wife and I felt blessed to have found this place. We can see why Tinsman’s has been such a community institution for so many years. Can’t wait to go back and support this small business that really cares about its community! Also, a side note—found out in the course of conversation that Tinsman’s donates the flag on the nearby walking bridge to Bull‘s Island, so if you have a few extra dollars (even during these tough times) to donate to that cause, I know they would appreciate it!"
"Wonderful local family owned company in the heart of Lumberville. Owners are very involved in the community."
"I am not one to write a review of a local business, but I felt compelled after reading a recent diatribe by a neighbor whose issues are not really related to the lumber business. Let’s start with the knowledge of the owners. Bill and Tom Tinsman have been in the business for decades. I have be patronizing the business since the early 80’s and I am still amazed at the knowledge of these two men. I run a small contracting business and have many jobs that require a great deal of problem solving. These guys are a great resource and have helped me find the right products for the job time and time again. Tinsmans has products that most lumber yards and few, if any, box stores carry. And, when the product is not stocked, Bill is willing to do the research and get it ordered. This is the kind of personal service you will never get at the “modern” lumber yard or box store. Recently, I sent a customer there to find wood siding for a board and batten job on their home. Bill directed them to use kilned dried cypress. This was a great suggestion. The job looks great and will be trouble free for a long time. They carry an amazing supply of beautiful fir in dimensional sizes that are unusual. I have made some great fireplace mantles, added beams to living spaces and have done repairs with this material. The end products fit very nicely into the time period of the homes. In addition they carry all the “normal” products you may need for any job. It truly is a one stop lumber yard with free advice. You can’t ask for more than that. This is a family business and one that all of us should support. The next time you are drifting through a big box store searching for anyone who can help with a question, remember that is what small businesses like Tinsmans do best – provide customer service.
