"I love the town of N. Manchester. However, this store does NOT embody what the rest of the town stands for. After being told by the young person at the register that I had to go back and find my own prices for their merchandise I attempted to pay. I didn’t notice the $5 minimum sign on the card reader until my card was already inserted into the machine. The young person then informed me that I had to spend $5 to use a card. I jokingly said, “ Come on, I already did your job for you, you can let me pay with this?” They then cancelled my transaction. No offer to have me purchase any one of the items up at the register. Just cancelled. I initially went to leave but then decided to talk to a manager. When the manager heard me ask for a manager, he went to the back. The young person radioed for him and he returned. I explained the situation to him. He simply restated that they have a $5 minimum to use a card. I told him I understand that but that I was upset with how the situation was handled and I simply want someone to help this young person understand how to handle these situations better. He told me he would talk to the young person. I could tell he thought I was wrong. So, I asked who the owner was, he would only give me a first name. When I asked for the last name he asked if I wanted to speak with her. I said, “Sure”. After a few moments the manager returned and told me I could have the merchandise I tried to purchase. I didn’t need to pay for it. I told him he was missing the point. I had no problem spending $5 in the store. I simply wanted the situation handled in a more friendly way. I went ahead and bought $5 worth of merchandise . When I asked the young person if they knew why I was frustrated they said yes. When I asked them to tell me, they said, “I guess I don’t know.” I explained how they could have handled it differently and their response was, “Thats what I did!” I told them I could tell that I was talking to a wall and that I hoped someday they made something of themselves and left. Not once did I hear an “I’m sorry”. They thought they were right. Last I checked, the customer is always right when it comes to businesses!"
"Great hardware store and always immaculate. Very knowledgeable staff. Sure going to miss Roger. He was "Mr. Hardware". If you were unsure of an item you needed, if you could give him a lead, he'd know what you were after. RIP Roger."
