Reviews of Lascala's Fire University City
"Menu looked excellent, and the actually food was ok. Stuck to the appetizers and pizza. Was happy with the mussels, and the hot Italian pizza. I do have some complaints however. 1. Host at the door was not friendly. Told us there would be a 30 minute wait for a table in a restaurant that was 35% occupied. She said this was because of reservations and offered us a seat at the bar. The remaining bar seats weren't doing for me so I said thanks, we'll find somewhere else to eat. Nothing personal, I just didn't want to wait and also didn't want to eat at the bar. Suddenly she was able to find a seat. We watched as the other tables remained completely empty during the entire course of our dinner... 2. Sitting next to the bar, I noticed an interaction between what seemed to be the manager and bartender. She came out scolding him about an order to the kitchen saying "a side? A side of what? The kitchen doesn't know what the hell you need" he told her he didn't know how to request a side of dressing, so he just pressed the side button. To me, she embarrassed and belittled him in front of many customers. She seemed very unpleasant and probably terrible to work with. 3. They charge a 3.5% fee for using cards. I'm always paying your workers salary via tipping, now I also have to pay your operating costs. I don't return to restaurants that charge for using cards. I can understand if there was threshold i.e. less than $40 but adding $7 to my $200 feels wrong. Even the worst atms don't charge that much. "Due to economic changes" they say. No, tell the truth "our merchant service provider charges us for taking credit cards and we think you the customer should pay that." Lastly, our server Anthony was great. Shout out to him!"
"I've heard some good experiences from this place, but for Italian food in Philadelphia it's rather mediocre. My entree came out cold -- always a turn off. That being said the appetizers and sides are absolutely delectable."
"I recently revisited this spot after having enjoyed their ravioli on my first visit. This time around, we opted for the Lasagna and the Margherita pizza. The lasagna was delicious, with its rich tomato sauce and lusciously melted cheese. Perfecto! As for the Margherita, I’m very picky when it comes to pizza and I wouldn't label this the absolute best. However I might say that crushed peppers made it taste more flavorful. For dessert, we tried the cannoli and the triple chocolate cake. The Cannoli’s cream was too thick and gooey, while the cake, though alright, was a bit too sweet for me. Planning to check their Tiramisu next time! However, I might skip the pizza on future visits. When it comes to pasta, this place hasn’t let me down yet. Highly recommend for pasta lovers!"
"I’m not sure how this food is rated this highly. Nothing I ate tasted good. First, the meatballs were dry and there was way too much sauce. The Mac and cheese was very grainy and the texture of the cheese on the noodles made it difficult to eat. Beyond the texture being grainy, the cheese itself actually lacked any discernible flavor. I would not eat here again."
"High quality Italian food ranging from pasta to pizza and speciality dishes. Starters can be large! Excellent fries - would recommend even though it’s an Italian place. You’ll likely have some left for lunch the next day. Indoor and outdoor seating (weather permitting). There is a bar area with televisions to watch sports along with a general dining area."
