Reviews of Magnolia
"What a terrible experience. Another reviewer used the phrase "used car salesmen" and unfortunately I can't think of a better term to describe this business. My experience was with Eric at the Rockville location. Eric did the hard sell, promising that while their service and installation rates were high, you get "professional no hassle service" and that "the job would get done right". I mentioned that Best Buy Geek Squad offers the same services at a much cheaper price, he sold me on, in his words, "the geek squad basically sends high school kids out to do the work". (SIDE NOTE: my brother in law uses geek squad for all his installation needs and has never had a problem with their work). When the day of the installation came, the service team came to my house with the wrong equipment. The service technician, to my shock, told me that he told the salesperson that the soundbar mount was the wrong one, but he was told to try to use the wrong mount and hope I didn't notice or complain. I called Eric with the service team there and at first he tried to argue that they "sent exactly the parts I ordered that were listed in the contract". When I explained I relied on him to sell me the correct items, he agreed to order the correct mount, and the team would come back to finish the job once I received it. When I got the correct mount, I spent the next week trying to reach Eric. Eric was very easy to get on the phone prior to me signing the contract, but now he was impossible to get a hold of. After being blown off for almost a week, I called and disputed the charge with my credit card company. I told Eric this dispute would be lifted when the job was completed. Instead of an apologetic response, and a promise to get the job done ASAP, Eric hilariously threatened legal action against me. He did finally schedule someone to come out. On the day they were supposed to come out, they canceled on me. We rescheduled the work, and despite having a date on the calendar for the job completion, and my assurances I would cancel my credit card dispute as soon as the job was completed, I got a call again from Eric threatening legal action if I did not cancel the dispute before the job was completed. The day they were supposed to come finish the job, they completely blew the time window without a courtesy of a call to let me know they were running behind, nor did I ever get an apology. The team finally arrived at 6:30 pm to finish the job. To me, it seems like Magnolia's biggest problem is over promising and under delivering. They try to pack in as many jobs as possible without having the staff or capability to adequately finish the jobs that they already have. I would have given them 1 star, but they get a star back because their service techs did the job professionally, the end result looked good and they were pleasant and honest with me. Bottom line: if you like over spending and having huge headaches, Magnolia is perfect for you. My suggestion is saving money and aggravation and just going the geek squad route instead."
"I would give less stars if I could. Do you want to work with a company that after 7 calls from us to schedule an appointment and 2 no shows over 5 days you still have made no progress. You can't leave a voicemail since voicemail is full, Best buy .com says all the agents are busy to chat and try later, and no one answers the phone at the Best Buy in Rockville, Magnolia division. My experience with the Geeks are good, The Magnolia division is horrible."
"Summary: used car salesmen Little of what you’re told from this shop can be trusted more than your local snake-oil independent car salesmen. Recommending incompatible components (arguing against manufacture specs) that they attempt refusing to return, promising replacement parts that never arrive, or trash talking other salesmen are not unique experiences. The showroom is nice (when any of their equipment actually works) for browsing and listening to systems. If you go into the store with the intent of spending $35k-50k (or more) on a full room theater install they’re not a bad general contractor but then again not exactly a shortage of independent contractors who will provide this service. If, like me, your goal is to simply get high end gear at a reasonable price and install yourself they are just meh... online retailers such as crutchfield, safeandsound, or audioadvisor have the same or better prices, more inventory, direct relationships with the manufactures, and faster / better service with knowledgeable people on the phone who are not on commission. I don’t know how much money one needs to throw down to get the standard service you’d expect from a “local” store at this Magnolia location but it’s significantly more than the $7k on audio components I spent and you better hope there are no complications. If you absolutely need to shop here go in prepared with the knowledge of what you intend to buy and negotiate the price as low as possible with price match examples because once you swipe your card and the sale is complete prepare to be ghosted. Also, expect to be up-sold $250-500 power cables and forget about reasonably priced HDMI or speaker cable recommendations. If you have a question about your high end audio setup a great starting place are the forums at Audioholics, lots of resources and common questioned answered. All that said, I do have a great system and the prices I paid were good so 2 stars. If now more than 6 months after my purchase I had any of the promised parts I’d consider adding a star or two. Hopefully your experience will be better, good luck."
"Ian was great! I spoke with a Best Buy associate at first, but they realized I would need a bit more info....so he brought in the BIG GUNS (Ian). When Ian came and talked to me, he figured out exactly what I needed and showed me a quick demo in the Magnolia corner of the store. Yes, it felt a bit sales-y, but the demo gave me a really good side by side comparison of the two TVs I was considering. I ended up buying the more expensive one, but I am so happy I did! Anything less and I would have been disappointed in the purchase. Ian even went the extra mile to accommodate the multitude of gift cards I had. THANKS AGAIN"
"Worse business ever. BEWARE!!!! They good at talking you into a tv. Then they don't stand behind it. Even when I bought the warranty . Manager Pete is rude and seemingly horrible at customer service. Gives Bestbuy and black eye"
