Reviews of Tropical Smoothie Cafe
"I come to this tropical smoothie often and have been a faithful patron for over 2 years since they’ve been here. Today, on Christmas Eve…my partner and I visited for smoothies and while the quality of the smoothies were consistent per usual, I am solely writing this to speak about the gentleman who appeared to be a manager. He was in a red color shirt. My partner and I were disgusted at the way he was speaking to the employees. It was aggressive, disrespectful, and if they were children. When an employee approached to asked a question, he loudly responded with “3 minutes not 5 minutes. I told yall don’t rush me”. Just nasty and rude. The employees deserve better and respect. This is coming from someone who has worked in food service before. Whether they are in high school or not, he needs to speak to them with respect and decency. My partner and I both cringed and discussed it when we left. He shouldn’t be managing anything without people skills."
"Employees always talking which I don’t mind but they aren’t doing anything while we stood in like for 15+ min just waiting to even get our order taken. They are horribly slow and terribly rude. The manager made us wait this long and didn’t even apologize. I get it things r busy but they had 2 smoothies to make and at least 2 people doing nothing. At least apologize for the wait."
"Tried to order online but could not find the Gambrills store in the never ending list. I go inside and say something to one of the gentlemen working there. He could care less and went on to say it was not a problem for all their other customers. Then I order a chicken wrap that is supposed to have a peanut sauce. There was no peanut sauce instead there was a sugary, vinegary brown sauce that recked the sandwich and made it soggy. It was horrible. The kale salad was a lot of the same very sugary, the apples were soft not crunchy and it had an odd smell. The high volume of sugar makes the food not healthy."
"I was so disappointed in the service received at this location! My partner and I entered with my service animal whom I was carrying as we had not expected to make any stops going into a store. I would have been completely comfortable with being asked the question allowed: is that a service animal? but instead, upon entering no one greeted us and two young women (employees) stared at us. A few moments later a large African American gentleman came out aggressively demanding we leave unless we have paperwork for the dog. Now normally, I would speak up and say this is a service animal and gladly provide proof but because I was not in the best health mentally and emotionally (per family circumstances and loss) I just decided it wasn’t worth it. My partner turned to me to ask me what I wanted and before I could answer and exit with the animal, the gentleman continued yelling at us. It was so unnecessary because we had barely been able to get a word in and the was nothing aggressive in our body language or tone. I then told my partner to go ahead and order and that I no longer felt comfortable ordering from there. What made the experience so terrible is that although my partner and I have aged well we are mid 30s with respectable careers and felt stereotyped as women of color and as a lesbian couple. There was absolutely no need for a man of that size to feel the need to speak in such a manner to two women. While we were leaving I turned to simply tell the manager that perhaps next time he should approach the conversation differently, speak respectfully, and allow people a moment to speak but he showed us that he had no respect for us by walking to the back and demanding the staff to walk to the back as well as if to say they are not worth listening to or speaking to as customers. It was horrific to experience this discrimination. I will absolutely be reaching out to corporate because the number of similar complaints and very concerning."
"The smoothie was good - a kiwi strawberry - though I couldn't taste kiwi, only strawberry. The service was quick once the order was placed, but staff was not very friendly. There seemed to be a tense, disorganized atmosphere in general. It was unclear who was in line or who was waiting, as people were just off to the side looking at their phones. People who placed online orders ( I suppose) kept coming in and going ahead. Better designation of lines would be helpful."
