Reviews of Columbia Counseling Center
"If I could give 0 stars I would. Tried to book an appointment as a new patient. Called 11 times and left a voicemail with no answer. Seems like they don’t care about their patients. Seek help elsewhere."
"Can NEVER get them to respond. At first it was just trying to get an appointment to get a refill on my medication. I would go weeks to a month at a time without anything. Currently it's been at least 2 months without anything. Now I can't even reach them to pay them. They constantly send bills, but I paid them for an appointment back in March and they never processed it so it got refunded in June. I asked them how to go about it and got no response. And tbh the cost for the appointments to get my refills is ridiculous it's less than 5 minutes and can be done through an email. I tried my best for 2 years. This place is terrible."
"DO NOT GO HERE!!! My phone call appointments with Dr. Sixbey lasted 5 minutes or less (usually 3 minutes!) every single time. They overcharge too. It has been an absolute nightmare over the last year fighting with them over billing. My insurance’s psychiatric copay is $25 and the office keeps billing me $50. I’ve been literally been fighting with them over this for a YEAR now. They are billing insurance for medication management and psychotherapy when I do NOT receive psychotherapy from Dr. Sixbey. On top of that, the CPT code they use is for a 30-39 minute appointment… and each visit is 5 minutes or less like I said. Because of the way they bill insurance (2 CPT codes) I basically get charged 2 copays. FOR A 3 MINUTE PHONE CALL. When I complained, there was a lot of back and forth and then I finally talked to the DIRECTOR. When I shared my concerns she promised she would get it figured out. My next few appointments would already be taken care of because of the overcharges from the previous visits. But guess what! I just got a bill in the mail asking for $50 (double copay) each for 2 visits from February and March, and it’s now AUGUST. Also, when I brought up my concerns about how short my appointments were and that the quality of care I was receiving was poor, the director basically told me “well most psychiatrists do short appointments” and that the other 25 minutes of the appointment were spent reviewing notes??? Total BS. The CPT code being billed is for the actual APPOINTMENT, so 30-39 minutes talking to the patient, not reviewing notes. They are a bunch of scammers and they don’t care about their patients. They are preying on a vulnerable population of people with mental health issues and overcharging us and hoping we won’t notice. Thank god I noticed! It’s absolutely sickening how they handled this situation and clearly it’s a pattern since all the other reviews on here are from patients who were overcharged. This place needs to be reported and shut down because they are absolutely despicable. They should be ashamed of themselves! TL;DR— this place overcharges and scams their patients, they have terrible communication, they provide terrible quality care, and they truly don’t care about their patients, only their money. Save yourself some time and peace of mind and go literally anywhere else."
"2 years into the pandemic- they seem to be only ones who can't get it together. Their front office is nearly non-existent. Consistently takes over a week to fulfill a prescription refill request- and requires at least two (sometimes more) calls to their voice-mail. The *only time you will ever speak to their front office is if you owe a co-pay. So I'd highly recommend using that to your advantage."
"If you've got a good drum beat with prescriptions, appointments, and no issues with insurance, (and so hardly ever need the front desk) the providers here are great. If you need the front office more than once in a blue moon, they're often really difficult to get a hold of. This review, like many of the others, is for the front desk: I've reach my last straw with the front desk today. I really needed their help and - again - all extensions are going straight to voicemail all day long as if they're not there on a Monday. I called two weeks ago and also went straight to voicemail. I left a professional voicemail and (not the first time) never got a call back. This has been an ongoing struggle for over a year. Some ideas to ease front desk frustration: 1. Shorten the call menu. No need for half of the COVID info. 2. Return calls. 3. Make an online portal for billing and appointments. 4. Attach statements when you email asking for money. I've had a few instances of incorrect billing due to insurance; that's understandable. But some of the accusatory "money hungry" reviews might be due to the way you email asking for a dollar amount with zero explanation and little faith corrections will be made. A patient portal could help."
