"I met with Colborn Associates yesterday. I had a wonderful experience with the mother and son duo. They are very welcoming and made learning about financial planning fun and very easy to understand. From my understanding, they work on a commissions based system. The endorsed companies cover the bill and there is no charge to the client. Colborn Associates doesn't promote any company by name, only by services offered, until you decide which avenue best meets your needs. This of course may limit your options, but the practice is definitely common. Colborn Associates focuses primarily on conservative approaches. So if you're looking for an exciting high risk ride in the stock market, this is not the place for you. However, if you are conservative with your finances like me, you will be very happy. I highly recommend that you add them to your financial planning arsenal. I look forward to meeting with them again."
