Produce Marketplace
About the Business
Produce Marketplace, located at 519 Saint Clair Avenue in Clairton, Pennsylvania, is a neighborhood grocery store focused on providing healthy and local foods to the community. Established in 2018 by the Mon Valley Initiative, this store was created to address the lack of fresh food access in Clairton after the closure of its last supermarket over 15 years ago.
The marketplace offers a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, deli meats, cheeses, dairy products, bread, and more. They accept debit and credit cards, checks, EBT/SNAP, and cash, making it convenient for all customers to shop for their groceries. Additionally, they participate in the Food Bucks program, providing coupons for free fresh fruits and vegetables earned through SNAP transactions or distributed by participating healthcare providers.
In addition to providing access to fresh and healthy foods, Produce Marketplace also has a Free Table at the rear of the store with donated goods available for anyone to take. Customers are encouraged to donate non-perishable items to support this initiative.
For those interested in supporting the mission of Produce Marketplace, donations can be made in person at the store or through MVI's donation page. The Mon Valley Initiative is committed to improving access to fresh and healthy foods in the community, and the Produce Marketplace is a testament to their dedication to this cause.

"Amazing place! Deli Counter, fresh produce, an ATM, this place has it all. I was able to do all my shopping there for my dinner that night. Thank you!"
"Love going here for produce and chicken wings! Always friendly service."
"I only recently discovered this place and look forward to becoming a regular customer. They have very affordable produce and food items, and the man running it is very sweet. He told me he has lived in Clairton for seven decades, and that he loves being able to bring fruits and vegetables to the residents of Clairton — an area that has been a food desert for decades. The comments disparaging this place are very disappointing. Many people can’t afford fresh produce at grocery stores as it is, especially those in poorer areas around here (case in point: I live near McKeesport and a Shop ‘N Save location that sells limes for a whopping 80 cents apiece). Grant money given to operate this place I assume largely goes towards the overhead that comes with operating a storefront, even one that operates as a nonprofit providing low-cost groceries — and even if the items are largely donated. I hate to break it to some of you, but you can thank capitalism and decades of disinvestment for the reason why Clairton doesn’t have an Aldi or Giant Eagle. Some of you need to be more appreciative of this place and the positive difference they’re trying to make in your community. Sorry, stepping off my soapbox! Not affiliated with this store at all… I’m just a passionate customer who likes to see good things like this happening in the Mon Valley and really hates to see negative reviews that aren’t deserved."
"Felix and staff are very friendly! Felix always tries to accommodate customers with whatever they need! Very glad they are in our town!"
"Great stopping by this store. Fresh produce, deli meats and cheeses, dry and canned goods. All types of chicken including Perdue. Bacon, pork, steak and dairy items. Fresh bread and buns from Cellones and BreadWorks including some specialties. We severely needed this place in this city! Stop by and I'm sure you'll find something you need!!"
