Department of Oral Medicine

The Department of Oral Medicine at The University of Pennsylvania, located at 240 South 40th Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is dedicated to education, scholarship, and clinical/outreach services in the field of oral medicine. With a history of over sixty years, the department has trained individuals who have excelled both clinically and academically. Led by renowned pioneers such as Dr. Lester Burket and Dr. Vernon J. Brightman, the department strives to educate pre-doctoral and graduate dental students in a high-quality clinical and research environment. The standing faculty consists of internationally recognized experts who are committed to educating the next generation of students, residents, and fellows while serving the needs of the community. The Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, housed within the department, is a national leader in radiology education. The Division of Oral Diagnosis/Emergency Care and Medically Complex Patient Care work alongside the Department of Oral Medicine to provide treatment for oral mucosal diseases, salivary gland disorders, and other oral health issues. The Division is located in the Perelman Center for Advanced Medicine, equipped with consultation rooms, surgical rooms, a dental laboratory, and faculty offices.
