"My husband has ordered a couple of different times after Heritage Craft Butchers closed back in February 2022. There have been several different things that have bothered me with the meat we have received. I will say, the eggs are great, but that is it. We had pork chops tonight and there was probably any meat on the pork chop. We have wings that still had feathers on them. That’s a hard no for me. We had ordered filets that weren’t filets. Not worth it. We really miss Heritage Craft Butchers."
"Cody and I love supporting local businesses and have been looking into switching from ButcherBox to a local farmer/butcher to buy our meats from - Heritage Breeds were important to us, knowing they had a good life before being killed. After searching for a while, we came across this farm in Burgettstown called Birch Creek Farmery. They sustainably raise ONLY heritage breeds for premium meats. We were already sold but saw they offered tours & since I LOVE animals, I thought why not learn more about them and sample their meats before buying a ton. Teddi, the daughter of the farm, met with us for the tour and we did a 1.5 mile walk about their main acreage. They own 1400 acres total which blew my mind! Anyway, she told us all about the process and that they drive 2 hours out of the way to have their animals butchered because it was the only one that properly handled them until the very end, avoiding them being scared, knowing they were about to die, etc. They care so much about their animals that they’ve actually cried after dropping them off. On the tour, I could see how trusting and loved the animals felt towards the family and vice versa. I could see how happy they are, all of them have names and come right up to you! I’ve never experienced anything like that on a farm. I’m writing all of this because they 100% deserve the recognition! Who wouldn’t want to know the meat they’re eating lived a happy life?"
"Birch creek has wonderful, delicious products from beef to bacon and more. I’ve visited the farm and Teddi and Chris do an incredible job of maintaining their land and treating their animals incredibly well. Getting Birch Creek is really convenient because they are carried by Harvie, so so get them delivered."
"I ordered a whole cow and split it with two of my neighbors. We had an amazing experience! Teddi walked us through each of our options and pricing in detail. She even sent pics of the cows we could get. We received all types of cuts that look perfect with vacuum sealed packs. They even delivered! So far we have had ribeyes and ground beef. Both were excellent! I will definitely be back when we run out. Highly recommend."
"Birch Creek's animals are pasture-raised and grass-fed. The farm sells products such as beef, chicken, pork, lamb, and eggs. Their website mentions "heritage" breeds, which existed hundreds of years before commercial farming. I bought one slice of their thick-cut, smoked Berkshire ham, which was about one inch thick and weighed about two pounds. The flavor was definitely smoky and good. I also bought two medium-size pumpkins, and they were a reasonable price and are a great size for decorating my front porch."
