Reviews of Small Business Development Center - University of Pittsburgh SBDC
"This review is a bit delayed, as this scenario occurred over a month between mid October and mid November of 2021. In seeking funding for Naked Local Bulk to launch in the Pittsburgh area, it was highly recommended to me that I reach out to Victoria (specifically) at the University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center. In reaching out, Victoria was enthusiastic, and eager to talk about my business and how she/the PITT SBDC could assist. We set up a time to talk on Monday. On that Monday call, everything was high hopes, and positive. She described how she could help me, what information she would pass along to me, and who she thought (organizations wise) would be best for me to talk to. She said she would get back to me on the following Wednesday with all of the information that she promised. Which a good bit. This included a review of my business plan, and any and all suggestions in regards at making things look the best to submit to a bank for the possibility of a loan. I was excited! Finally, someone interested in helping. But, that Wednesday came and went and there was no contact from her. A few more days turned into a week, then just below two. In following up with her about the specific information that she promised to send over, the people she said she would connect me with, and the review my my materials, i got a response back in two days (2 weeks to the day, of when she originally told me that she would respond). In the response was none of the information that we had gone over, or that she said she would collect. There were only two attachments that she sent over; The first was a pre set up file about how to post, set up, and market on a social media platform. Which I never asked about, and we never discussed as that is not my need, as was not part of my inquiry; The second was a file that's subject matter was Community Development Corporations. Which we spoke about briefly, but it was a small aspect to the original conversation (and which I already had done on my own). This was a hodgepodge of community groups, local invest firms, random links, and other stuff not related to the subject, as well as out dated information. I replied back telling her as such, and passed along a few more Local Community Development Corporations that were missing. In addition, I asked her about the information we originally spoke about. Another two weeks went by, and I didn't hear anything. I wrote another follow up seeking her response. But, many month later, I still have yet to have a response. This was a disappointing and frustrating experience. As a professional helping your community, you do not state that you will do something, and then never do it. It's basic customer service 101. Plus, it's very unprofessional given the scenario if a small business it waiting on your response, which will never come. In addition, in our phone call, she kept pushing places in Washington County. Which sounded great and all, but that wasn't my target location. And I expressed this. But she kept sliding it in. I have no idea why she promised items, and actions, but never delivered on anything. I hope you have a better experience."
