"This used to be a decent school when it had the free education program through the union. Since they have dropped this program they have gone significantly downhill. I feel ashamed that this school doesn’t stand with its students against the Department of education to bring back the free education program through the unions to what made this school what it was (decent). The lack of communication is at an all time high. Trying to get assistance with anything is like looking for the holy Grail, It’s just not gonna happen. I only have five classes left to graduate. I’ve been on the Dean’s list the Presidents list for my grades and I cannot get any assistance with continuing in my education, such as scholarships or anything else. I am really ashamed about this school lately."
"It's nothing but a joke If you wanna waste time by having YouTube videos linked to you every week and do nothing else this is the place for you. There is no instruction from teachers or zoom classes. All the information about the subject is in the form of 2–10-minute YouTube videos presented by other people. This has been the same set up for all of my classes at EGCC except for the intro to college course. For a college, regardless of its standing, it is unacceptable to allow classes to be taught purely based on short YouTube videos. For some of these classes, no substantial homework or reading is given on the subjects beyond these videos it is up to the student to seek additional instruction. Khan Academy classes are more informative than any of the classes I am paying for. It was a wonder their accreditation is only pending. Not to mention it seems like most of the faculty have no idea what they are talking about, and you will be waiting 2-3 days for a call back. Then there is the joke they call a college ledger that's supposed to tell you how much you owe but every class is listed five times along with additional fees. They've keep sending out emails about their union program being cut after they were found doing something shady with the money or something."
"This school has so many issues. Do not pay for any classes you will get nothing from it. The administration stick you in whatever classes are open. It doesn’t matter whether there’s prerequisite needed they will let you sink or swim. The schedules of their classes do not match the syllabus it’s like they made a standard syllabus and just send it out I don’t care whether or not it matches each individual class. The professors Seem to not really care about their job And that reflects in their performance of actual educators. Watch YouTube videos you’ll get more education than the school will provide"
"This school definitely has some issues. Between lack of communication and the quality of their courses, I'd have looked elsewhere a longtime ago if my union wasn't paying for the education. The worst part of EGCC seems to be some of the professors though. Put bluntly, many seem to lack the passion for teaching. It's plainly obvious that they are just borrowing resources from other schools/teachers without crediting. If it's not outright plagiarizing, then then it's strange policies like being "punished" for handing in assignments too early...in an online course. I put emphasis on online course since this means the professor doesn't have to worry about losing a paper copy of an assignment and can grade it whenever they want, so being penalized for turning in an assignment early hardly makes any sense. The worst experience I've had with a lazy professor at EGCC so far has to be when I handed in a final PowerPoint assignment and the professor refused any credit for it due to the Turnitin score (Turnitin compares assignments to existing assignments from other people to prevent plagiarizing). The problem is, Turnitin isn't a "automatic plagiarizing detection" software and it often delivers false positives. For example, my own name actually came up in the Turnitin software as plagiarized!! It's plainly obvious that the professor didn't bother actually reviewing what Turnitin was detecting and instead just figured that a high score must mean I plagiarized the assignment, when it should have been obvious that the software was giving back false positives. I still passed the course, but I had spent 2 weeks on the assignment and for the professor to just cast aside my work without any effort on their part was certainly disheartening. I tried contacting the professor to plead my case, to which they responded that I could redo the assignment only to respond 2 hours later that I couldn't redo the assignment. I'll be graduating this year and glad to put this horrible school behind me. Only reason I didn't give it one star are because I didn't experience many issues with my credits transferring from my previous school."
"If you are considering going here for your free union benefit, ABSOLUTELY DO IT! I have a few friends who go to other community colleges in my area and compared to their schools, EGCC operates pretty well. The accelerated online courses have gotten a bit more challenging this year and I feel like I'm learning more. The teachers are very attentive with questions or concerns, I don't think I've waited more than a day for an answer to a question about an assignment. Your information about your GPA and major are at your disposal and the degree plan is easy to follow. I feel like EGCC does a good job of setting me up for transferring to a university, they offer lots of resources on the transfer process. In my own research, I have found that credits transfer very well no matter what 4 year institution Ive considered. I only have 2 complaints. First, it's pretty difficult to get ahold of the online enrollment advisors, especially the first few weeks of classes each semester. You really need to keep on them every day if you need something. But they literally handle thousands of students across the country so I understand why it's difficult sometimes. Second, some teachers take a few weeks grading assignments, which is frustrating if you're the type of person who relies on feedback from previous assignments improve on future ones. I feel that if students have rigid due dates, the teachers should be held accountable on grading as well. Other than that, EGCC has provided a wonderful experience that is preparing me well for a four-year school as well as a career in my major."
