H&R Block

"Horrible experience. Granted, we have difficult taxes and had to pay state taxes for three states but you would think that the experts either know what they’re doing or would ask a colleague. Nope. They had our information for six weeks prior to the tax deadline and the day of, we had to refile the taxes FOUR times because they kept getting rejected. 11:00 pm on the tax deadline and we’re staying awake to sign the forms yet again and then have to cross our fingers and hope that it was accepted. Finally, we think success! Except no - a few weeks later we get a letter from one of the states requesting more information. Turns out, two of the returns were COMPLETELY wrong. WHAT??? We paid $500 for a complete joke of “expertise.” Then we had to go to another office 30 minutes away because the local office is closed and no one answers the phone. The accountant we worked with never responded to our email about the incorrect return because she was a temporary worker and there was never an automated response telling us this. So here we are in June re-filing our taxes and after talking to the expert in the Alexandria office and a New York office, we find our returns were even more screwed up. And just another annoying note- the accountant we worked with at the Falls Church office would call using her speaker phone every single time she called (which was dozens of times) and every time, we would have to say “we can’t hear you, can you please take yourself off speaker.” Every. Freaking. Time. Sometimes we would talk to her ten times a day and she still would call on speaker. It’s so frustrating. Just make a damn note to call us using the regular phone. I know this seems petty but it made an already stressful situation even more frustrating. My husband is more chill so he wouldn’t write this review but I’m angry enough for the both of us. Stay the heck away from HR Block if you want your taxes done correctly the first, second, or even third time you file."

"This facility is a nightmare. It's been almost a month since we first went in person. As we sat with our tax preparer who needed to be shown where to find everything on my W-2, I found myself wondering why I was not working for H&R Block. If my competence in locating a driver's license number or identifying Box 4 on a form was immeasurably faster than that of the employee, perhaps I, too, was a certified tax expert. After she was unable to complete our return, we were told countless times to "wait a few days" or "wait a week" with the promise of a follow up. Finally, after 3 weeks I called every single day for a status update to literally no avail. No one returned my call, no one gave me an update, no one could talk to me in person. This business model is almost comical: spend a ton of time with a client (finger typing their info into a computer), then never talk to them again and dodge their calls. Not only do you lose out on money and waste your own time, the client will write you a horrible review. Beware of H&R Block."

"Been there to "hold my hand" w/my special needs & extraordinarily efficient to oversee that I'm compensated accordingly. I suffer blindness and the assistance I've received from them has been very helpful the last 19 yrs I've filed using h&r block. TYVM!"

"The tax pro was really kind and took the time to try filling out our taxes differently to see which option would give us the best return. Our tax pro was also very communicative and called us immediately if she had any questions about the documents we uploaded so that when we walked into the office, it was nearly completed!"

"If I could give less than one star, I would. I made an appointment on February 4th at the Falls Church location with Tze Yun Soh. He goes by T.Y. When we went in for our appointment, Mr. Soh refused to start our taxes because we were missing one document. A few days later, I sent him the document via secure message and it wasn't until two days later that he even responded. I had to call the office to ask if he was going to respond. The receptionist advised me that he was out of the office and would be back the next Monday. This was on Friday. I finally got a message around 7pm on Monday night advising that my tax return was ready. I asked Mr. Soh to send me what he had so far so I could review it. That message went unanswered until the next night. He asked me to send my bank account and routing number over the computer and refused to tell me or show me what he had done. I asked him to tell me the amount so I could pick the account I want this to go into and he has disappeared again. I will NEVER use H&R Block again. I never thought I would get ghosted by a tax preparer. There is absolutely no reason it should take a week to complete a simple tax return, not to mention they penny and dime you for extra documents. H&R Block will not get a penny out of me and I would discourage anyone form using T.Y Soh."
