"RUN! Horrible experience with Caldwell. A short list: 1. They misspelled my and my husbands names over a half dozen times (and different ways each time, so it wasn't "automated" just consistent lack of attention to detail 2. I got fined hundreds of dollars due to their negligence in addressing notices in a timely manner, including a letter stating the sum was going to be sent to collections due to non-responsiveness. We paid almost $3k and our 2022 taxes still haven't been accepted, and I am still fielding notice after notice dealing with the issues Caldwell caused but refused to address properly. I reached out for a refund, and they went from incompetent, to just silent (this request for a refund was sent not only to Sherman, but also to the CFO and CEO). After waiting a month, I disputed the charges with my card."

"The Virginia Beach office is unresponsive, careless, lacking a sense of urgency. Huge mistake getting this company involved on my family's finances. I can't decide if they have no idea what they're doing or if they're downright shady. In February or March of this year, we paid $700 to have them look into a major discrepancy with our taxes. We had paid the IRS more than 4 years worth of income tax, yet we still have a couple years worth of a balance. Plus, hundreds in excessive fees and interest were being added to the balance each month. We asked our CPA to look into it, paid $700 and he remained unresponsive for 3 months so we just showed up in his office. It was clear he hadn't looked into the issue at all, however he was adamant that I was incorrect. I had to fight through everything, line for line to get him to review. I had the calculator and I put the work in for him, and the discrepancy was confirmed. Our CPA said the first step was for them to call the IRS and get answers on the fees. That was in May and we have yet to hear anything - however he did send us another $700 invoice. Do not use this company unless you want to be in a bigger tax mess than you knew possible."

"I used to work at another CPA firm. The owner of that CPA firm sold his practice to William Caldwell. It was a huge mistake for him to sell it to him. William Caldwell was extremely rude to employees. For example, because of the severe weather, I was not able to work at home for one day because the internet was down. The next day, William Caldwell yelled at me and said that I stole his money by not working. Within several months after the sale, almost all my colleagues from that firm left Caldwell Company. Therefore, if you are a CPA firm owner, do not sell your firm to Caldwell Company. Moreover, when I was at Caldwell Company, we were not paid for overtime during the tax season at all. Therefore, if you are a job seeker, do not work at Caldwell Company. The quality of the service of Caldwell Company was the poorest that I have ever seen. They always rushed to get works done without any careful review. Therefore, they made tremendous mistakes. For example, I was assigned to do bookkeeping and tax returns for one of their business clients. That book was completely a mess. It took me a lot of time to clean their book. Because of that, my employment was terminated. The reason that they gave me was that my work pace was too slow, but now I am a tax manager at another CPA firm. Therefore, if you need any tax or accounting service, go somewhere else and do not go to Caldwell Company. All I said is true. If there is anything that I said is inaccurate, I would welcome William Caldwell to challenge it."
