Reviews of East Tennessee Children's Hospital
"I am writing this review to say: DO NOT GET BREAST REDUCTIONS HERE! I got my surgery 10 MONTHS AGO and I am STILL not healed. Although this is not their fault, they did nothing in the 27 visits. No blood work. No medicine. Took 5 minutes looked at my wounds and said "keep doing what your doing." This went on for months before they referred me to a dermatologist. Surprise, they did nothing either. I ended up going to my primary care and they did more than Children's Hospital ever did in ONE DAY. Antibiotics, cream, and special wash. FINALLY my unhealed wounds closed up after 8 months. Thennnn....opened back up again. I have had numerous hospital visits, staph infections, etc.. What gets me is that I had taken a visit to my primary care to see if my wounds were infected. The next day I went to children's again to see my surgeon. He said it looked perfectly fine and to keep doing what i was doing. Next day i got a call saying a had a staph infection. My surgeon didnt take the time to look thoroughly........I appreciate you giving me this surgery, but this whole healing experience has made me wish I never got this surgery in the first place. I am now going to rheumatology......Other than this inconvenience, staff is wonderful and very helpful. (except for the breast surgeon and I wont be pointing fingers........)"
"My wife and I took our 2 year old to the ER last night for persisting vomiting resulting in dehydration. He has had the virus over 48 hours and needed IV fluids. We saw Dr Strickland and we’re not impressed with the bedside manner given. Due to him being sick multiple days and going 2 days without eating my wife raised concerns to the dr about his weight, given that he’s already on the slim side. Not only did Dr Strickland not answer her question but also told her that’s his pediatricians concern not hers. I want to be clear by stating, when a child is in another doctors’ care aside from his PCP, it IS your concern and answering the parents of the patient’s questions is required. My wife’s concerns were minimized and she was already panicked. Additionally Dr Strickland advised they did a chemistry panel on our son. We are not stupid but we also didn’t go to medical school. My wife asked what that means and entails and the doctor responded “it means we did a chemistry panel”. So therefore another concern, another question was unanswered and we left wondering. She also advised the chemistry panel was “not bad” so we were left wondering if it was okay or if that possibly meant that it was not good either? When we already don’t know what that means and didn’t have it explained. Nonetheless, our son did receive the fluids he desperately needed and seems to be on the mend today. I also want to be clear by stating, we love children’s hospital and my wife spent a lot of time here as a child and we have had great experiences with our son there in the past. This occurrence was off putting and not usual for here. We have never felt like our concerns were belittled and we have never had a negative experience until now. Bedside manor in this case was awful, and when you have concerned/scared parents - the least you can do is answer their questions.."
"Took our 6 month old in to make sure he wasn't dehydrated. They ended up giving him Motrin. His age he's only supposed to have 2ml. They gave him 9ml. They then proceeded to only tell my wife. When they sent the information over to primary care. They mysteriously excluded the fact the over dosed a baby. Be extremely careful with any hospital you choose. Trust your gut if something doesn't seem right tell them no. They do not have authority over you like they like to pretend."
"My son was admitted and spent 9 days in this hospital. The staff was beyond words. We spent Christmas, new years, Christmas Eve and they did there absolute best too make sure he got too enjoy the holidays. They were so gentle and so well trained. Every question I had was answered with certainty and if they did not know they found the answer QUICKLY! If I asked for anything they did not get irritated they were helpful with smiles on there face. Truly for someone who hates hospitals I have 0 complaints. I'm just a loss for words with how great this hospital truly is."
"We were visiting east TN all the way from SC for a mountain getaway and ended up in the hospital for our 4yr old due to severe dehydration following a respiratory/GI bug. We were robbed of our mountain hiking experiences BUT, let me tell you.... if you have the poor unfortunate luck of ending up in a hospital on your vacation, let it be ETCH. They took the BEST care of me and my daughter. The nurses and techs were attentive, super smart, comforting, and efficient with their care. The doctors were absolutely amazing and spent plenty of time with us. They made sure we had all of our questions answered and they delivered appropriate care. My daughter was night and day difference by the next morning. They truly, truly care. That is rare these days. So while we had to miss our trip, we had an amazing experience at this hospital. We were out of town in an unfamiliar town, and they put us right at ease. Highly recommend. 100/100"
