Reviews of 1799 Prime Steak & Seafood
"We had a great time! Jacqueline and her team were wonderful. They took care of our every need. Very professional and friendly. The court yard was nice and toasty on a February evening and the food was superb! We LOVED everything on our personalized menu! The whole party plans to come back again."
"A cute restaurant down a short brick walkway. It’s intimate/close seating inside but a great date night option. Service was good. We were seated in a timely manner because we made reservations. We tried the crab avocado tower which was underwhelming. It lacked jumbo lump crab meat and flavor. The sweet mashed potatoes were simple. The pork chop was cooked well. The fish was tasty and the sides complimented the dish."
"I recently moved to Va and asked for a nice brunch recommendation for my family when they visited for thanksgiving. This place was highly recommended and I am very disappointed. Here’s my honest review as someone who has traveled and lived all over: 1. Food: the food was average at best. On Sundays they serve buffet brunch and I tried a little of everything. The grilled salmon and brisket had absolutely no taste/seasoning. Thank goodness for the lemon butter sauce, it was the only thing with flavor. The grits were lumpy and dry, the fried chicken didn’t have much seasonings at all and the pieces were very tiny. The Belgium waffles were good (can’t really mess that up) and the made to order omelet was delicious! Best thing on the menu for sure. The French toast sticks were overcooked, the ham was bland and the first set of bacon I ate was also overcooked/burnt. The collard greens had too much vinegar, making them difficult to eat a lot of it (unless you love a lot of vinegar). The Mac n cheese looked good and was alright. Maybe a 5.5/10. The cold bar with oysters, spicy shrimp, fruit and salad was good, but who wants to pay $50 and only enjoy oysters, fruit and salad? We ordered the mimosa flight and for whatever reason, each flight had 2 sips worth of mimosa in them. I wish I took a pic but after one gulp it was finished. Should’ve just ordered a glass instead, then I would’ve gotten more in the glass. All 4 tiny flights came out to the same amount of drink as one glass of mimosa but cost more. The crab dip was pretty decent. I did actually enjoy it and got seconds. The dessert bar had 3 items, none of which were very good and all of which were dry. Don’t let the pics fool you. If you like bland dry food, this is the spot for you! Service: the service was good. Our waitress checked on us often and when we asked for condiments and more drinks she brought everything promptly. The busers were constantly asking to take your empty plates (probably because the tables are so small there’s no room). Our family of 5 was sat in a booth with a tiny table. After we all had our first plate of food on the table, there was no space to eat and we were elbow to elbow. My overall impression of this place is that it’s more hype than anything else. Cute establishment, nice service, basic, mediocre, bland food at best. Not worth the $50 in my opinion but I’m realizing that everything in NOVA costs far more than I would expect. I’m always down for paying more for good food if it’s worth it, but this place is not."
"So we made reservations here. Unfortunately they are cramming seats into what should be a waiting area only. But hey…the pandemic will have folks recouping in whatever ways that can. It was only two of us and we hated our fishbowl seats. We were celebrating a milestone but that didn’t seem to matter to the host or hostess. We watched the hat policy and dress code policy be enforced and not enforced. Since we were at the door damn near, we saw it all. It was interesting. The food was great. Everything except the dessert was really good. We had a variety of food and the bill was $300 for two. We did leave with a little doggie bag but I guess that’s what fine dining is supposed to be like."
"The restaurant is nice but kind of hidden in old Town Va. There is a front door that takes you to a bar area, but the restaurant entrance is up the alley to the right. This was a little off-putting as you have to walk past the trash, which is hidden by a tarp. I went twice once for my wife's birthday and again for our anniversary. There was a live musician the first time but not second time. The food is good but you will be charged a $4 fee to change out sides even if the sides are the same price on the menu. The servers are very attentive."
