About the The Humane Society
The Humane Society, located at 167 Conklin Avenue in Binghamton, New York, is more than just an animal shelter. We provide a range of services to ensure the health and safety of all animals in our care. Our Pet Safekeeping and Emergency Boarding programs offer support in times of need, while our caring staff is there to assist with all stages of your pet's life, including end of life care.
Our microchipping services, performed by a licensed vet tech, help ensure the safety of your pets. If we are unable to assist you, we can provide you with local resources that may better fit your needs.
Our boarding services offer professional care for your pets, including walks, playtime, and updates upon request. Grooming services are also available for both cats and dogs, with experienced staff who can handle all breeds and behaviors.
If you are facing challenges in keeping your pet, we encourage you to rehome them on your own to prevent them from entering the shelter system. If surrendering your pet is the only option, please complete the animal surrender profile. Thank you for considering The Broome County Humane Society for your pet's needs.

Reviews of The Humane Society
"The place itself is decent, the animals seem to be very well cared for and the staff is very nice. However my issue is the adoption process. (For the dogs). I’m not exactly sure how many applicants they allow for one because I’ve seen mixed responses in regards to that. I’m completely fine with the “first come first serve” but if you’re already planning on giving the dog to the first family that applied then maybe let the other know the dog is on hold pending applicant review. Let them fill out an application and if things fall through they’ll be next to consider but do not allow the other people to visit that dog while in queue. Y’all allow families to visit with a dog knowing damn well they may not get him/her and it’s messed up. Then you leave them hanging with no response after they’ve gotten their hopes up and bonded with the animal. Like I said maybe it’s not the best idea but y’all gotta come up with a better alternative for the adoption process than the current system cause this ain’t right especially during the holiday season. I completely fell in love with a dog only to have her ripped away and given to the people who applied first. You should’ve never let me have a one on one when you knew your intentions from jump….should’ve let me fill out the application and sent me on my way. If the first family fell through then you call the next in line to set up an appointment for contact. Now I’m left heartbroken, I was so excited to get a dog for Christmas. I was very traumatized when my dog died 10 years ago and it took all this for me to be ready for another animal. But due to this situation I don’t even want one anymore…EVER. So thank you Binghamton humane society for flaring my PTSD."
"I go to the groomer here during the Walk in nail trimming hours every 4-6 weeks with my Bassett Hound. They are kind, friendly, knowledgeable and it only costs $10! I also go to the rabies vaccination clinics here when my dog is due for her vaccine. Supporting the Humane Society is important and they do a great job."
"These folks are so good! They are always working with massive amounts of fur babies. They offer services at much lower rates than local vets. So if you like welcoming strays, they offer several items for nominal fees. My rescues have benefitted from them on a few occasions. Highly recommend."
"My favorite thing is that they have rooms to visit the cats in, instead of little cages for them. It was perfect for me because, even though I couldn't adopt them, I really needed a hug that day, and the cats I visited made me feel better. They also have dedicated spots to put donations, both outside (as of Jan 2022) and just inside the door. They also offer boarding and grooming services, which I may take them up on. They only have cats and dogs, no other animals."
