"I love working here. The staff is supportive and always looking to better their craft. My son also attends and has received a great education. The staff learned to accommodate and modify their teaching techniques to help him with his dyslexia. He feels part of the family and not ostracized in any way."
"I am incredibly lucky to have attended PNCS from pre-school through 8th grade. This school was not just a school, but a family. It was such an amazing thing to be a little first grader and feel loved and cared about and protected by the upper grade kids. All of the students come together to help each other grow and learn and shine. The teachers always created a loving, warm environment for us to come to each day. The education that I received was above and beyond standards. Of course we learned math, and reading, and writing, and science...but our teachers pushed us to delve deeper, to ask questions, to research, to explore. We attended symphonies, dissected eye balls, did community service, took a weekend camping trip to Gettysburg, and wrote and performed plays. When I went on to high school I excelled. I had all of the skills I needed to take on chemistry, physics, and advanced english classes and I loved it. PNCS taught me to love learning. PNCS will always hold a special place in my heart and I know that I can always return and will be welcomed with open arms."
"Our children, grand children and I have attended this school and have done well in the next steps of education and life. The environment protects innocence of young children and encourages support and cooperation among students of different grades."
"My son attended Pittsburgh New Church School from pre-K - grade 6. At the time that was the highest grade the school had, otherwise he would have stayed through middle school. The benefits he got from the school are difficult to put into words. It might be simpler to state the facts; that he went on to do well enough at Sterrett that he was chosen to speak at his graduation; that he graduated from Allderdice with honors, that he was accepted to Carnegie Mellon University & not only graduated with honors but was asked to speak at his graduation, and finally, that he was accepted into a competitive Ph.D. program at CMU, offered full tuition as well as a living stipend. I credit all of his academic success to the education he received at PNCS. There is no substitute for the student-teacher ratio there—the small classes, the dedication of the teachers, and the high quality of the volunteers who give their time to augment the curriculum. I also valued the social and emotional atmosphere at PNCS. As a youngest child my son would have had no opportunity to develop nurturing behaviors if it hadn't been for the interactions between the upper and lower grades in the school. You can't put a price on the value of an older child learning to care for a little one. In addition to all of the above, because the student body is small, my son had the chance to participate in activities that in a larger school probably wouldn't have been possible, such as theater and chorus. He's not much of a visual artist but his artwork was always displayed in the auditorium and hallways. If I had a question or concern, the school principal or his teacher always had time for me. In short, I can't recommend the Pittsburgh New Church School highly enough."
"The Pittsburgh New Church School is a gem of a place in Point Breeze, near Frick Park. I have three grandchildren attending. It is a safe and loving place for them to learn."
