Reviews of Bregy Elementary School
"Have great teacher's great school helps our child with his needs"
"I attended Bregy from 1st to 5th grade. From 1955 to 1959. We lived on Packer Ave and I remember walking thru that tunnel everyday to get to the school. The "Packer Bar" as it was called back then was at the end of the street were we lived. It was a good place to live in the mid 50's. I remember playing stick ball and "crack the whip" on the hill by the freeway. It was a kinder gentler time. We moved there from the Passyunk Homes which was naval housing at that time. I have fond memories of south Phillie back in the day."
"I went there also in the mid 70's and I have many of the same memories that Mark Doucette has...funny what the mind remembers...what a nightmare of a school..my teacher Mrs. Demarco was nice."
"I was there in the mid 70's when a boiler pipe burst badly injuring many I being one of them. Teachers would beat and cloths line children and boys would lift the skirts of girls and dry hump them, one hell hole of a school. I know if you went there you remember, maybe we deserved it. On the plus side there was a cool music teacher who played the contra bassoon and carried me after I was burned. I prefer to look on the bright side now, walking through that crazy tunnel under Schuylkill expressway US 76 interstate on my way home to Capri st., playing with the other military brats games like kill the man with the ball and rock fights going home bloody, hearing the crowds cheering from the stadiums and especially playing on the jets, tanks and landing craft at the US Marine Parade Grounds as well as touring the Naval aircraft carriers and ships, you see my dad was a Marine stationed at the now defunct Naval base. Anyway life is life, south Philly is well south Philly and being from a suburb in northeast Massachusetts that's my memory black and white for better or worse."
