Reviews of The Aspen Apartments
"I lived at The Aspen for three years. When I first moved in, it was a good value. It was great for the first year, then things went downhill and remain subpar. They raised my rent annually, and I finally left after finding an actual luxury apartment for less than their price point and with better amenities. What they offer residents is no longer a good value considering the building issues. There are 17 floors, and at least one elevator has not functioned for the past two years. If you have a dog, children, or mobility issues, I wouldn’t recommend The Aspen given the ongoing elevator issue. Also, during the past two years, the AC/heat have gone out during periods of record heat and cold; hot water is frequently shut off with limited notice. That said, the maintenance team is really great - if you have an issue, they will normally arrive same-day and resolve it. I did not have any issues with bugs, but was on a higher floor. There is paid laundry on each floor, but at least one machine is often broken. A few years ago, I would have recommended The Aspen enthusiastically, but currently I wouldn’t. You can find better elsewhere."
"I mostly loved the Aspen during my 5 years, but I would not recommend it. There are a variety of reasons below, but this is a great example why I don’t recommend it. After Labor Day 2023 they started a pipe project and had to shut off water on Wed. On Tue I asked if it would impact AC bc it was 100 out. I was told it wouldn't. Well, the AC broke. Was told it would be fixed in 15 min, took 5 hours. Same day, hot water broke until Fri evening when it became intermittent. Was told it would be fixed Mon – it wasn't fixed for a week. In the meantime, the middle elevator broke again. So in 1 week, we had 3 major systems go down, all which broke earlier this year and were supposedly fixed. Then in Dec, the heat went out again for over 24 hours and once it was fixed, the middle elevator broke again (and as of me writing this was still broken). One compliment I will give is to Earl. If something went wrong, he was the only person who would take initiative to fix it or make sure it was fixed right – or at least would try. Aleksandra won’t help whatsoever unless you are a potential tenant. Exit doors were broken for weeks, kids got on the roof and threw rocks at people and cars, another person set fire to a flower planter using it as an ashtray, and lights around the building were out for several months (some over a year). In 2022, I alerted them bc the laundry room was so humid that the fire door warped and water was dripping down the walls. Months later, it caught fire(twice). The entire building went a month with no laundry. In 2023, a tenant threatened to assault me bc I asked him to leash his dog bc I was trying to come out with my dog. The only thing staff did was talk to him. He didn't get a notice of noncompliance for his dog being off leash and they didn't do anything about him threatening me. I was told if I wanted to pursue it further, I would be written up bc my dog is a “nuisance” bc he barks when he sees other dogs. Evidently, my dog barking is equivalent to threatening to assault someone. Not to mention the only reason my dog barks is bc he was bit by another dog in the building (and I have spent $$ on training and work with him when we go outside to mitigate it). In 2023, an elevator was out Jan-July. When it came back in service in June, within a week, it went out of service again bc it didn’t pass inspection. This meant we were down to two elevators for a 17-story building (only one when the freight elevator was being used or broken, which it broke for several weeks). July 2023, the AC broke for several weeks, including when we had red alerts for air quality. They said there’d be a temporary fix, but when I asked, I received no response. This was after another major AC break a few years prior for several days during a heat wave. Winter 2022/2023, we went several weeks with the hot water and heat going out multiple times. There was little information to residents, very little notice of planned shut offs (less than 12-24 hours), and several times it broke on a weekend or at night, so it took the vendor forever to fix it. In 2020, when my dog was bit by another dog on the second floor and they did nothing except demand pet rent from the owner. In the past, any dog that bit another dog was removed from the property. They have done a lot to update the grounds and main areas. That said, some of the residents do not take care of it. Someone let their dog poop in the middle of the lobby, the elevators routinely smell like pee and pot, dogs poop all over the grounds with sporadic enforcement, and trash/beer bottles are thrown around. This has been a drastic change over the last few years. The cleaning ladies are fantastic, the problem is on weekends or after the leave. I have so many other examples, but limited space. The problem is, they know the Aspen is the best you can find at that price. You either have to go to a lower quality building or pay more."
"Tyler at concierge has a bad attitude and is extremley rude towards tenants who want to collect packages. Half of the time she sits in the leasing office, so tenants are waiting around to collect their packages. Don’t make myself and other tenants wait because you are chatting to the leasing agents. Even when she comes out of the leasing office to retrieve packages she has a major attitude and you can tell from her face that she is mad because she had to do her job. Also shes on personal calls a lot instead of taking care of tenants."
"I have been living here since July and am very happy with the apartments. Maintenance is helpful, the email communication from the leasing office is much better than where I was before. The application process was easy, and Aleksandra was very helpful and nice, and continues to be. When we noticed that we had roaches shortly after moving in, the leasing office put us on the list and the company they contract was wonderful as well, explaining what our problem was exactly and explaining the treatment. Bonus points: seeing all the dogs on the property makes me very happy. If you have a dog, but work a lot, there is always a resident posting on the bulletin board offering to walk your dog. Very happy :)"
"This was my first home on my own. I got married here, had my first baby here, turned 21 here- I will never forget this place. I’ve lived here since 2021, & im about to move out next month. The apartment was beautiful & spacious. Maintenance was super quick at all times, it’s a great location and my view was gorgeous. Earl is an awesome leasing manager. I’m sad to leave. It was perfect for a brand new adult. However, with good also comes bad. The laundry rooms are scorching hot at all times & one of them even set on fire (on my floor nonetheless). They definitely need work as they’re 100% a safety hazard. One of the elevators has been broken for months, & it’s caused a lot of waiting just to get to your apartment- especially when someone reserves the big one for moving. Each floor consists of two sets of stairs- and with a baby, no way is someone walking up them past the fourth floor. This is another safety hazard, considering it causes way too many people to squeeze into one elevator with such long wait times just to get to your apartment. Some of the front desk workers are just flat out rude. There’s about 3 that I adore & I will miss them a lot. The apartment building also has a weed issue. My upstairs neighbors (both sets that lived there while I did) would smoke for hours throughout the day, and it would seep into my infants room. I had to air her room out multiple times per day. They need to do a better job of managing that. For what residents pay to stay here, we deserve better honestly. I highly suggest these issues get fixed, but I also want to thank The Aspen for all the memories. I’m super grateful this was my first home."
