Reviews of 929 Apartments, Baltimore
"I finally left 929, so I am updating this review to give my honest opinion. I was a long-term resident (4 years), and the new management could be better than the old one (Greystar). I didn't even bother to renew my lease here because of this and the ridiculous increase in rent. Pros: - Proximity to JHU. Since it's Hopkins affiliated, automatically, you are living with people of a particular age group. There are only a few families, so this place works if you want a younger crowd. - The place is mostly clean. Although they don't clean the upper floors as often, I never had issues with roaches or mice in the four years I lived there. - Utilities including internet are included. - Free coffee every morning from 6 am to 11 am. - Most security/concierge people are friendly. Cons: - The HVAC unit stops working all the time, and last year, we didn't have water or electricity for a few days. But it was never fully repaired, and there is always an issue with the hot/cold water, water being shut down, or no electricity. Every few weeks, we get an email with this issue. - They have increased the rent to a ridiculous amount, and for the size of the apartment, it's not worth it. The apartments are also dark, and unless you are in a corner apartment, you will buy lots of lamps; otherwise, it can get depressing. - You need to go down a million times to pick up your package as the security people are always busy signing in packages. - The area (Middle East) is not considered safe. Although there are many JHU security people around, walking outside after 9 pm is not recommended. - No grocery stores or restaurants nearby. - The people at the office are all new and are rude. Most people are leaving mainly because of the rent increase, which makes zero sense, given the size of the apartment."
"1. I was robbed right next to the Starbucks in broad daylight. (Yes I am starting with this, besides the ridiculous rent hike it's the reason I am moving.) 2. For the first several months I did not have a functioning washing machine, and after 3 months they finally gave me the key to another apartment to do laundry. Once I got my "new" machine in my apartment, I found it would sway violently even if there was a small load in it. Despite multiple complaints to the maintenance staff (who kept saying it was fine) my washing machine and dryer finally crashed through the door and broke on the floor (with, again, a small load in it). It took my family threatening to sue to get this fixed. 3. Other than that, this apartment building was OK until they decided to raise their rents and add in astronomical prices for lost keycards, forgotten keycards, or anything else. The apartments are too small, amenities too few and frequently broken, and have too many issues for this level of rent. Also, do NOT rent a 2 bedroom. There are no windows in the living room/kitchen and they are incredibly depressing. I'll pass and I hope anyone reading this does too."
"I liked it when I lived here last spring. The price was acceptable and the site was great for working here. The only thing I didn’t like was the distance between the apartment building and the garage building. It always felt like somebody could peek you from the window of the garage. However, they actually provide options to avoid the window from facing the garage. The line for package at the front desk was always long. It was understandable and people here were mostly patient. However, sometimes it seemed to be overwhelming for the guard/concierge to deal with the packages for hours."
"We loved living here for its convenient location to Johns Hopkins. It takes a bit to get used to the noise since it is a busy area and there are lots of other people living in close proximity to you. The gym is nice and having 24 hr security is a huge plus. Parking in the structure next door costs extra."
"I've been living in 4 bed 2 bath apartment for past 1.5 years, and do plan to continue for next year. I am a PhD student at nearby JHU medical campus and I believe it is THE SAFEST, most convenient and best value for money option in the area for students/post docs/residents who work at JHU/JHH. The proximity to JHU/JHH is convenient, and the whole way to the apartments is patrolled and well-litten. There is 24h desk reception and mail service (with easy package drop off too), so your amazon delivers will not be dropped in front of row house doors and possibly lost. I have never had either incoming or outcoming mail lost (and I receive avg. of 2 packages and send out avg. of 1 package per week). 929 building has good common areas, including large common room with an adjacent rooftop area; I hosted a welcome lunch for new students and co-hosted Thanksgiving for the folks who stayed for holidays in the building - and both times the apartment served great for us. I use these places to study late hours at times (along with some other). The gym is another thing which makes me plan to stay there - it is small, but has good treadmills and a wide selection of weights. Regarding the staff, I have been finding both management and reception desk personnel to be very friendly and exceptionally helpful in a few unusual personal situations I have had as resident at 929."
