Reviews of The Chesapeake Apartments
"Avoid at all costs, the building is old and not well kept, my apartment has various issues, including rotting floors, mice and roach infestations, thin walls + ceiling and unprofessional maintenance of the unit. The leasing staff acts friendly but will try and suck every penny out of you. PLEASE DO NOT MOVE HERE."
"The Chesapeake has it all! Ants, cockroaches, mice and rats! You will never be lonely with this array of pests to keep you company. Too much free time? Enjoy spending 2-6 hours trying to do your laundry between the card machine in the laundry room not loading and nobody answering customer service. There are a couple of folks who However, most of the people who staff the Chesapeake seem to either be in a perpetual state of confusion and shoulder shrugging, or simply on their cell phones engrossed in meaningful conversation. I think the word "traumatic" pretty much sums up my experience living there."
"I really appreciate the management team here because they really do their best. They’re personable and professional at the same time. I’m impressed at how great a job they do at running 2 buildings at once. It will soon be a year for me and I haven’t felt like I’m not safe in this building. The buildings in this area are older than they look so it’s a given for some things to exist outside of some control. However, I’m glad I chose here. I look at the other buildings in passing and appreciate how much amenities they offer. From the cleaning team to front desk and security, I am appreciative of my daily interactions and experiences. If I’m honest, I really wouldn’t consider changing my home no time soon. Filled with gratitude."
"This is hands down the best apartment I have ever lived in. I lived in the Chesapeake from 2016 to 2021, only leaving because I purchased a townhome in Reston. They keep the apartment clean. The gym downstairs is fantastic and there is free parking next to the building (provided you have a zone 3 sticker). It is also very affordable. This apartment is older, so it is subject to rent control. They can only raise the rent so much on tenants. Overall, 5/5 would rent again."
"I’ve been here for over 6 months. Overall, it isn’t a terrible place to live; it’s a good location (10 minute walk to the metro/grocery store, safe neighborhood), the front desk is helpful, maintenance is decent, and I like having a gym in the basement. However, I have two major issues: you cannot control the heat, so this winter has been unbearably hot (to the point where I have to run the AC a few times a week) and living above the loading dock is awful. There are trucks in and out of the dock all the time (with the garbage disposal being the worst), people yell and laugh even if it is before 8 in the morning, and people smoke out there and the smell comes in through the window. And then occasionally I’ll be woken up from a dead sleep due to something; currently, it is 3am and there is some kind of pump running out there, yet I received no email regarding emergency work. Of course, this is all exacerbated by the fact that I have to keep my window open 24/7 to help with the heat. My review is obviously colored by my unit’s location, so I cannot speak to the experience of living in an outer unit, but I will say that I would give the place 4 or 5 stars if not for the heat and noise issues. So I would NOT recommend this building if the only units available were the ones above the loading dock."
