Reviews of Quebec House Apartments
"HORRIBLE & unresponsive leasing office; they launched some phantom parking construction project in the middle of winter with no advance notice (told us during thanksgiving break) and now parking is IMPOSSIBLE….tenants are struggling every night when they come home from work, yet the leasing office does not care. Also, the neighbors are rude, loud, inconsiderate and noisy. I’ve been having a serious noise issue with my neighbor yet the leasing office does nothing. All they do is find ways to squeeze money out of you. They’re incompetent crooks. AVOID THIS SCAM TRASH BAG BUILDING AT ALL COSTS! HORRIBLE QUALITY OF LIFE P.S. - don’t fall for the fake “apology” and nonsense responses to reviews here by management…they’re way more responsive to public reviews than their actual tenants! I wonder why! INCOMPETENT SCAMMERS"
"I'll start off by saying I do love the location and neighborhood. So that's my second star. When I first moved in Sept 2022, everything seemed top notch. But it has gone downhill since. I wont repeat the many reviewers comments before me as I agree with most but between the insane parking project with no timeline, constant and I mean constant construction noises both internally and externally (and most people work remote now.. its 2023 and the management's response was to find alternative working places for a project with no timeline...), and the lack of communication and empathy for the residents, it makes me question why I pay this amount of rent for a building that is always finding a problem to fix."
"Absolutely under no circumstances should you inquire about living in the Quebec House. I have lived here for 6+ years, I am one of the younger residents of the building and have talked about how I love living here for many years, but after a slew of issues over the past 2 years since the management changed, I will be moving out as soon as possible. The maintenance team tries their best to fix small issues, but they have poor communication with each other and their "fix" to problems is often just a patch up that needs to be addressed later. I have had blue tape on my walls since they came to "check" the apartment for any paint or plaster damage, only because the DC state inspections were upcoming and they didn't want to get dinged by the state. They have yet to fix anything in a timely manner. I once had an intense gas smell in my apartment after being on vacation for 5 days, and the engineer on duty came into my apartment and ridiculed me telling me "that isn't a gas smell, you're just going to have to deal with bad smells sometimes in this building" because his broken device was not detecting it. Washington Gas then was called out (by me, not by the building) and they detected a leak and had to replace my stove/oven unit TWICE because of it. We are now dealing with a parking issue. I specifically chose this building because of the parking, as did many other residents. They have now removed 150 spaces of parking with only 5 days notice, and have barred anyone from purchasing a permit, except the people who have paid for a garage spot automatically get free reserved parking. They conveniently hid this project from us so that we couldn't attempt to reserve a garage spot prior to the project beginning, of which we were given no timeline. I have to use my car every day for work, and I return at 4:30pm to still have to park over half a mile away from the building on the street because there are cars that stay parked in the few spaces left in the lot for weeks without use. The building management is TERRIBLE and the company that runs this building does not even pretend to care about its residents. The office staff is consistently rude for absolutely no reason, especially one assistant resident director who is so rude that she has a reputation amongst residents where most people try to avoid speaking with her but she's often the only person available as the actual resident director makes herself unavailable to deal with various "big projects" that she automates on her email response when contacted. We will suffer through 90+ degree temperatures outside but they still will hold out turning on the AC until the very last possible day they are legally required to just because they can, even though the law does not prevent them from turning it on earlier. They hide HUGE projects like the parking situation from the residents until the last minute, knowing we can do nothing about it. The apartments and amenities (or lack thereof) are simply NOT worth continuing to live in this building. The apartments are old, run down, old appliances, and cracks in the plaster occur on a daily basis. There are water and pipe issues constantly. They simply just don't care about the wellbeing of their residents, and it has built up way too much to continue to stand living here. DO NOT LIVE HERE! There are plenty of other buildings in Cleveland Park and surrounding areas that are much nicer, more affordable, and where you'll be treated like an actual human that wants to be comfortable in their own home. Seriously, consider elsewhere."
"Awful communication from the residence manager. There is about to be almost no resident parking and residents will be forced to park on the street (which is already incredibly sparse). Rent is high for dated apartments. Plaster repairs take an incredibly long time. I’ve had blue painters tape on my wall for 6 weeks. The only redeeming quality in this building is the front desk staff and leasing office staff. Do. Not. Move. Here. It has been awful."
"My partner and I moved into the north building in April. I had previously lived in a studio in the south building for 3 years with minimal issues. Our new unit was not inspected before move-in. We have dealt with a string of non-stop maintenance issues, many of which stemmed from management's failure to do their jobs. Some of those issues include: stove gas line leaking gas on day 1, broken garbage disposal, broken dishwasher, poor caulking, and more. Management has largely been incompetent in addressing these issues. The engineers they send usually try their best but are not informed of previous attempts to solve issues and do not receive timely communication from the front office, so it's like starting from scratch each visit. Their response time has been excruciatingly slow and when they do get around to addressing an issue they have often caused more problems. One staff member even raised his voice with us and routinely spoke to us in a disrespectful manner because we politely raised concerns with his questionable decisions (puting a hole in our wall to make a replacement microwave fit). Getting a replacement microwave/kitchen fan for our gas stove also took an entire month. If management replies to this review claiming to want to resolve the issue, please be aware they have dropped the ball at every single turn due to incompetence, lack of communication, poor decision making, and more. We deeply regret moving into a unit in this building. Save yourself the stress and do not rent here. The only thing the management here is capable of is collecting your rent on time."
