Reviews of Circle Of Seasons
"COS is an excellent school, a great option for those parents who think that education is about fostering curiosity and developing a love for knowledge. I really like that at COS my children learn through playing. I am also in favor of an education where electronic devices are not at the center of teachers' pedagogy. I love that kids learn to knit, have Spanish lessons, learn cursive, and I could continue. However, one of the most important characteristics of this school is that teachers and staff are devoted to create a positive learning community where every child is unique and special."
"My granddaughter was in public "mainstream" school for kindergarten and had a test at least weekly! TESTS for kindergarteners all because regular public schools teach the test so the Federal NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND test scores are high which equals more money to the school! This school believes in NOT teaching anything that the child's brain is not developed enough to handle. They might be behind in learning writing and reading at first, but then suddenly they will catch up and pass the other systems. In the past year (2017-18) with new head, and a few new teachers, my opinion has changed a bit--seven out of 25 children were uncomfortable, and felt she was very negative towards students and spoke negative remarks to some students IN FRONT OF THE CLASS! We got parents to email the school AND had a conference to speak of the problems. NOTHING was done and when I wrote to the Head of the school (Principal) I got a "form" letter for our trouble. My daughter and I did work and talked to other parents before bringing up this problem and yet NOTHING was done! THIS is very negative teaching and against all Waldorf principles! This school has teachers that NUTURE the children--our public mainstream didn't have time for teachers to talk to their kids about anything other than teaching--no nurturing no friendly feelings. This school takes nature walks and teaches children to respect and understand nature and all the seasons. They play with math theories before they learn what they mean and how to use them. Waldorf has made a huge difference in our granddaughter and if she's too ill (tummy) to go to school in the AM--she'll beg her mom to take her to school when she feels better because she doesn't want to miss anything. She has the same teacher all through the grades--she's in second grade now. This hasn't changed as the main teachers are great! I'd still recommend this school to any parent! 2018 re-rated."
"Fabulous experience! Teachers are so caring and students really react well to and thrive in that type of environment. They work hard to teach the students how to be good human beings as well, and therefore really remove a lot of the bullying issues that can occur in elementary schools. My girls couldn't be happier and either could we."
"This is our family's first year with COS & we are very happy with the school so far. Our son did well at public school - good marks, above average all around. He has many friends there still. The teachers there cared very much about the children, just as they do at COS. The problem lies with the methods & expectations at "normal" public schools. The teachers & staff are bound to do things a certain way & the children suffer. We knew if we continued there, he would burn out & become less & less interested. The 2nd graders at our son's previous school get 15 minutes of recess time per day. 15 minutes for a bunch of 7 & 8 year olds! Children need to move around and explore their surrounding with all of their senses. At COS, they go on nature hikes, play on straw bales, climb trees & many other activities that they would never be allowed to do at a normal school. They go outside rain or shine. When they do their lessons in class, they often have movements they do along with them. The children aren't expected to sit at a desk for 8 hours filling out worksheets. Our son comes home every day happy & often has an adventure or two to tell us about. The more we learn about COS, the more we like it; No homework, half days on Wednesday, longer / extra breaks in Fall & Spring. These all help to keep the children (and staff I imagine) from getting burnt out & helps the teaching material stay fresh. We like that our son will stay with his teacher for a few years. She will grow to know each of her students extremely well & be able to tailor an education experience for each child, helping them where they have problems & encouraging their strengths. Another extremely positive aspect of this school is the volunteering community. The COS parents & family get together to do gardening work on the grounds, raise funds, build playground equipment, clean classrooms & more. Again, it's not that the parents at our son's previous school don't love their children any less or don't want the best for them, but the "normal" public school system doesn't allow for the same level of opportunity to be involved with the education of their children (at school). It remains to be seen if we are as happy with the school a year or two from now, but our first couple of months has really been a positive experience. We are excited to have our son at COS & look forward to seeing the school grow and mature."
"I have three children at Circle Of Seasons. This is my daughters 2nd year and my sons first year here. I have had an opportunity to have had my son in both public and catholic school and found the education and staff here to be excellent. The teachers, staff and parents care. The students thrive and flourish, while not a traditional school and regular run in the mill teaching styles our children are learning. The school believes in the whole child. Mind, Body and spirit. They teach our children to appreciate classmates, nature and most importantly themselves. We live in a society were are children are not valued, their are demeaned, belittles, ignored, hushed and left to their own devices. This school allows them to see their value, worth, believe in myths, faith and explore dreams and even dream bigger. My three children come home happy EVERY day. They are excited to see teachers and classmates. We have a family environment and like all families some good some bad but on the whole we allow dialogue and different opinions. I know my children would have been lost in a conventional school my children are EXTRAORDINARY and so is their school. I am honored to be a part of it from the ground up and look forward to more amazing developments to come."
