Reviews of The Ohiopyle Suites
"EDIT: bumped up to 4 stars. I really appreciate them working with us to try to make our second night better than our first. We were moved to a different available room (we’re here off-season) which was MUCH better. However, I’m leaving the review below visible because it appears that half the rooms have windows that open, and half do not. Whether this corresponds to bed type, I don’t know. BE SURE TO ASK WHAT KIND OF MATTRESS THE ROOM HAS! Rooms ending in -01 through -04 (both floors) appear to have better windows and therefor maybe beds? (not confirmed; just observing based on window type). Original review: Bed- 0 stars. Way too soft. I’m writing this from a Holiday Inn Express. We left in the middle of the night and came to Donegal instead. Yes, it was that bad. I’m confused by two other reviews, one which said the bed was “hard” and another that said the pillows were like clouds. I slept on a 12-inch chunk of very old foam that might have been a mattress in 1968. There was a visible dip in the mattress before I even sat down. It practically swallows you, making it feel like you’re sleeping in a v-shape if on your back. By 1 in the morning, we were so miserable (and had already tried sleeping sitting up in the chairs and on the floor- yes, it was so bad we tried the floor), that we gave up, drove to a real hotel 30 minutes away, and enjoyed the rest of the night. I really, really wanted to enjoy this place. The location is amazing, it looks nice, the rooms are clean, and it could be wonderful. But it’s not. Based on the other reviews, I’m wondering if they sourced their mattresses from a bunch of resales? How else do you get “too hard” and “too soft” at the same place? Also, the sheets did not fit. So I sat down on the bed and the sheet popped off. Struggled to fit the sheet over the mattress, only to have it pop off again when the hubby rolled over. In addition, whoever renovated the place made the terrible decision to have a front window that doesn’t open. With a tiny unit in the bathroom, you’re looking at a potentially warm night, since you can’t rely on nature to cool the room off for you. Probably won’t be an issue for 10/12 months, but still a summer problem. All in all, feels like a cheap renovation job by somebody looking to make a quick buck. We’re enjoying Donegal and hope to return to Ohiopyle for another try at a different establishment later."
"I paid $180 for this room for one night. It was worth half that. The beds were horribly uncomfortable, way too soft. There was no soap or shampoo in the bathroom. The Wi-Fi did not work which is CRITICAL for a place like this with almost zero cell phone signal. There was a dead bug in the ice bucket. The window unit AC near the bathroom could barely keep the area by the beds cool. The breakfast options were unappealing and many were squished. The photos and description on the website were misleading to make this seem like a high quality hotel, but it's not. Very misleading. It's trying to be something it's not and I unfortunately paid a high price for that."
"Stayed in "Meadow," first floor, room 102. Made hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill inside the pavilion. Made pizza mountain pies and s'mores in the fire pit. (Both are gas, no need to bring wood or charcoal.) The condo is fully equipped with skillets, pots and pans, utensils, dish soap, dish cloths and towels, along with paper towels, measuring cups, silverware, everything you need if you aren't going to cook outside. (We brought our own mountain pie maker and utensils for the grill.) There was even a bottle opener and a wine opener in the drawer!! There is a coffee shop directly across the street that we visited twice. Resident cat, "Thomas" is super sweet, he even let me hold him! Highly recommend!! Will book again for our next rafting trip. We did the middle Yough and are planning on doing the lower Yough in August or September. (Middle Yough is good for first-timers and small children.) Ordered the chocolate covered strawberries and they were in our fridge waiting for us when we got there. AMAZING!!!! Can't wait to go back!!"
"We only stayed for one night, but the bed was super comfy and the pillows were like clouds. The stairs to the second level are a bit difficult due to how far apart the stairs are, but it's manageable. The only issue was when we were taking the bedding off at the end of our stay, which is in the rules, we saw a blotch of blood on the mattress protector, and it didn't even look like someone washed it or tried to get it out. We were a bit grossed out but we luckily utilized the other bed. If we had slept on it, I think it would be a different story."
"Location is exceptional. Rooms are not particularly charming but ok for families up to 6. Good discount if you book together with a rafting experience (which is excellent btw). They offer coupons discount for breakfast and dinner but for places that are somehow far away and so pretty useless if you are there by bike, they should agree with other coffee shops nearby. Puzzled about their check-in policy: they charge extra for early check in even if rooms are already clean and available, it feels pretty impersonal. We arrived early during our GAP ride and we ended up camping in front of the ready rooms for two hours with 6 kids, not sure who gained out of this ..."
