Reviews of Jackson-Reed High School
"let me first start off by saying I go here but its too late to move out but I'm writing this so young kids could save them selfs. 1) most teacher take 2-3 weeks to respond or do something when emailed they also take 2 week to update the grade bookend when students complain teacher act like its the students fault. 2) crime runs rapid in the school students don't respect one another, theft is a big thing at the school and it leads students to be on there toes and when it happens to your kid no one will help, deans would make false promises of getting your stuff back and when you take matters in your own hands the deans threaten you with suspension."
"Best school i've ever went to so far, from education and teachers to students (not sure about the environment). The only issue I have is that some kids are forced to attend Wilson. But if a kid with a strong personality attends wilson, that kid will flourish and succeed here."
"A beautiful building! But the students are terrible. The use of drugs, alcohol, both are prominent, as well as violence. They are poorly behaved, under the administration who ahas zero control. Very few are on the proper road to college. They have an odd antipathy towards School Without Walls, D.C.'s #1 public high-school (70th of the public high-schools in the country), when in fact Walls performs much better than Wilson in all areas besides some sports. There is a saying very true at Wilson: "You have about a fourth of the kids who are on the bus, on their way to success, about one-half waiting for the bus (not quite at the passing level) and the other fourth who are trying to catch the bus, and/or have very little chance going to college the way they are trying as of this moment. I believe that is an exemplary statement and should be held to high regard when looking at the school"
"Transfering from a KIPP College Preparatory school into Woodrow Wilson, I have to be one of the few kids who use to go to a KIPP school to know how well Woodrow Wilsons academics are. From a scale of 1 through 10, I would say Woodrow Wilsons academics are a 4, I have seen far much better teaching qualities than I am experiencing now. For example, my old Algebra 2 class, I was failing with a D+ but my teacher's quality of teaching was helpful, on the other hand, my Algebra 2 class now is very relaxed and im passing with an easy A just by turning in completed work, nothing is graded by accuracy. My APUSH class is unorganized, my physics teacher doesnt know how to break any lessons down, its just terrible. The sports are awesome, thats the best quality of the school I have seen so far."
"As a former student of Woodrow Wilson High school I am addressing the pros and cons Con: homework schedule is ridiculous, as every teacher gives about 30 minutes of homework every day in each class, creating at least 2 hours of homework daily. The teachers often give busywork homework that does not reinforce knowledge learned in class but just to keep the student busy. Pro: Amazing principal that tries his very best to make the school a proper learning environment Con: The school itself is incompetent as teachers and staff never respond to E-mails and teacher never utilize the Ed-line system correctly. It can take up 3 weeks just to get into contact with the staff via email. Pro: After the 115 million dollar renovation the school has an amazing building and technical equipment Con: The classes are too large and more then 35 students in each classroom is chaos. Con: So much marijuana is traded and sold at Wilson that I think they have there own garden for it. Con: They teach collage level Organic chem in a freshmen biology class (In the class I was in 3/4 of the students failed the final and I barely passed with a C+) Con: 1650 students In the atrium at lunch time can be deafening That is my opinion summary of Woodrow Wilson High school PS: To Daniela Craft Biology teacher, You taught freshmen students Collage level organic chemistry and gave such intense and stressful work that 3/4 of the students failed your final. Please stop teaching"
