Reviews of Waynesboro Area Senior High School
"Teachers are mostly kind and do what they can, but are allowed very little freedom. Students are treated as things and not as people. Most administration downright hateful. After learning my friend is LGBT, tried to goad me into saying she’s a predator. Often try to silence any dissenters instead of learning how to compromise. Make students delete bad reviews of the school, so nobody has to know. They put all the money into sports. I was involved in theatre productions and we had to do a whole play on a budget of whatever money we could find ourselves. Many classmates were rude with no punishment. In fact, when I stood up for someone being bullied, my mother received a call saying I had been harassing someone. My friend bought tea and found mold in the bottom. Another friend bit into a tomato and found it getting ready to sprout a whole new plant. More than once I went to grab an apple and put my thumb through it, took it out of the basket, then found it back in the basket to be bought the next day. They have no regard for mental health, and don’t care to educate themselves. The counsellors there are the only ones with any sympathy toward it. When a student committed suicide they had one day where you had free range to the counselling office, one school assembly about it, then tried desperately to cover up the incident by outright ignoring it every single time it was brought up. Had an assembly to answer students’ safety concerns in the midst of school shootings to dispel anxiety, but outright ignored many questions to the point where I, myself, started writing “Stop ignoring the question about [x]” on the document so they would be forced to address the situation. There are very little opportunities, and they hardly care enough to let them grow. I submitted a transcript request form for a college application and received an email from that college 4-5 months later that said they never received the transcript. I often say I would never change the things that have happened to me because they made me who I am, but with this school I would hesitate. They said highschool would be the best years of my life. If that’s true, I don’t think I’m ready for the future."
"They were good about working with me as a visually impaired student so that I could get my materials in a form accessible to me and, for a small town, they have a decent number of classes to take. That's the only good thing I have to say. I noticed horrible abuse and miss treatment of students with intellectual disabilities, there were many unnecessary restrictions and lack of freedoms, the opportunities were very limited, class sizes are huge and students are bunched together in mixed groups of varying skill levels, I had a number of friends experience downright abusive situations from the staff, And the transportation system is not up-to-date at all. The vast majority of the staff have no idea how to handle students going through mental health crisis and do not care to educate themselves or help these students. The school funnels what seems like all of its money into the sports programs, going so far as to cut drivers Ed. I understand the difficulties that come with managing a large body of students but there could really be many improvements"
"Horrible school, horrible transportation system. Ridiculous rules then no rules where they should have rules the school works harder instead of smarter. Wish I didn't move my children here. Curriculum is bad"
"Great"
"i love this school, especially the staff. they all treat me and other students with respect and the councilors have helped me on multiple occasions. I am proud to be a student at WASHS"
