"Al Cobb, along with his very capable team of Annie Cobb and Eric Newman, provided the entire class with a practical, first rate classroom and hand's on immersion into the world of SIPs building. I can't imagine anyone who would not benefit immensely from this jam-packed, 2 day Sips construction immersion. The instruction was worth every penny I paid. The class is suited for skill levels as it incorporates such a wide array of SIPs building aspects. While thoroughly professional, Al and Eric invited and welcomed student question participation in a "no question is unwelcomed" fashion. They were there to teach one and all. On top of that, they were not only extremely knowledgeable, but also simply great folks who shared a genuine hospitality and generosity with all present. Go if you have the chance. The effort is more than worth it."
"It is refreshing to see a group that is so passionate about the environment and the quality of homes they build. The hands on classes were very thorough and informative. I am building my second SIPS house and still got a tremendous amount of knowledge from the classes. If you want to learn how to build a superior building envelope then you need to attend the SIPS school."
"I attended the 2 day mid May 2017 Advanced SIPschool 301 training along with 12 others. The 'hands on' training for installing SIPs and learning the many short cuts to make things easier during all aspects of a SIP job from designing, bidding, ordering, and installation was invaluable. Al Cobb did a very professional job and shared his over 20 years of experience with us. He even sent us home with sample contracts and estimation tools/spreadsheets. I recommend this class for anyone interested in professionally taking their SIP installs and design to the next level! Even being quite familiar with SIPs at a conceptual level, it was two days of my time well invested! Being in Al's installation workshop and putting together Model SIP wall and roof projects with actual tools and fasteners with different spline types and panel thicknesses really brought the concepts to reality. As a side note, Annie Cobb's cooking was delicious. She kept us well fed with some terrific home made treats for lunch and dinner during the course. Plenty of great networking time to ask questions and share SIP stories."
"I am a St. Louis area carpenter and installation consultant for energy efficient envelope construction projects. I have, over the course of the last few years, gained experience working with SIPs. However, I was looking for a more formal educational experience in SIP installation best practices, and hoped that Sipschool would round-out my experience and make me better prepared to meet the challenges of future projects. It did. I was very impressed with the in-depth analysis of how building with SIPs relates to building science as a whole, and great discussions on how design, panel connection details and regional weather patterns affect the performance of a home/building. I also enjoyed a closer look at the many ways SIPs are manufactured, and the pros and cons associated with the use of various types of panels. The "hands on" portion of the class was excellent, covering the various types of tools required for proper SIP installation work, best practices, and simple solutions to complex questions. I really appreciated the "from the ground up" approach applied to constructing our example structure in class. While most of the time (at least in my area) you expect to see Ready To Assemble SIPs packages, we created a structure from blank panels - in effect doing all of the work that the manufacturer would do in-house for an RTA package. By creating a labor-intensive class, Sipschool encourages you to physically accomplished every step in a "field - fit" scenario, and I honestly don't know where else to acquire that kind of experience, aside from the first time that this type of project gets put on your plate and you have to wing it. I have to give Sipschool a great review because, while I hoped to learn something new, I ended up learning a lot more that I expected. I would recommend this course to anyone who is interested constructing their next project with SIPs, any professional who is serious about pursuing a career in SIP installation work, and to any General Contractors/Builders who are looking to diversify their portfolio with SIP projects."
