Reviews of North Spring Acute Hospital
"Worst experience of my life. The staff was rude and would constantly yell at patients. According to them, not being able to sleep at night isn't a big deal and water isn't a basic need. The biggest memories I have from there are all very negative, invalidating me and my feelings, not wanting to even give us water, teaching us nothing when we were supposed to be having group therapy sessions. Not listening to any complaints or trying to understand any problems people had, but instead, yelling at us and making us sit in the hallway while they don't even pay attention to us. If you ever consider sending your child here, PLEASE DO NOT! They will not be helped here. I never felt any better until I was able to have freedom. I felt worse and worse every day I was there."
"If you love your child do not send them here and I get it you are at you wits end, you are afraid, everyone is telling you take these reviews with a grain of salt but this is not the place for your child. Staff get aggressive on the phone if you ask simple questions. They say they are ready for discharge when they are not. They don't have the appropriate paperwork ready when you ask them to discharge. I had to have a police escort to get my baby, my NINE year old. They verbally threatened me on the phone with filling abandonment charges if I wasn't able to make it on the discharge day so I came earlier. Do Not send your child here! There are other options. Sign up for help at your county mental health services they will help you coordinate care. You are not alone. But don't send your kid here."
"I highly recommend you do your research before bringing your child to this psychiatric hospital. After my daughter opened up and told me what was really going on inside there, I immediately told staff I wanted to check her out and take her home and they said “that’s not happening.” I had to call the police because they would NOT release my daughter to me. Mind you, she had an evaluation that day and was deemed safe and healthy. I have the form signed by the psychiatrist. They only wanted to keep her for 2 more days because they wanted that insurance money. It took 3 deputies, 1 Sargent, and CSB to get my child out of there. They kept yelling and saying it would take hours and hours to get her discharge approved. Um I don’t think so, I voluntarily checked her in, I can check out my child and they had no legal right to tell me no. Once the police showed, and CSB reminded them of my rights and their legal obligation to respect my decision, my daughter was out of there in 90 minutes. She suffered from horrible trauma in there. She was screamed at in her face, shoved, all by a staff member and a nurse had to intervene and tell this employee to stop and calm down. My daughters food was taken from her, this staff member joked with her saying she already ate and she wasn’t getting anymore food. MY DAUGHTER SUFFERS FROM AN EATING DISORDER. She was moved day rooms and was not fed yet. This place is unbelievable. They yelled at me “calling the police isn’t going to make a difference.” Oh hell yes it made a big difference, you guys just didn’t want me to stand up and defend my daughter. A case has been made with police. CSB lady who was super nice actually apologized to me and said I should have never had to deal with that kind of treatment. When she arrived on the property, she asked the Sargent “why won’t they release her” “why are they keeping her, they can’t keep her if Mom wants her out.” They tried to tell me that I was checking her out against medical advice, and I would have to sign paperwork, which I completely agreed to do. However, once the police were finished, and my daughter was released, I did not have to sign any paperwork that was against medical advice. I wonder why that was? It is because IT WASN'T AGAINST MEDICAL ADVICE. She was fine to leave and be discharged, and this was confirmed by CSB. They just wanted to lie and say that she was still not well because they wanted that insurance money. Do not, I repeat, please DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE. I should have never had to fight to get my daughter out of a voluntary hospital stay. It shouldn’t take police. The Sargent kept saying “this is sketchy, something isn’t right.” Stay away from this place."
"this is the most terrible hospital many things bad, first of there is insects running around. I have seen spiders and many other patients. staffs are HORRIBLE. they do not care and are super rude. and the main doctor is a liar. he lies a lot to patients. nobody in there cares"
"I would not recommend sending your child here. This facility is very unorganized. During my stay at the acute, I witnessed kids being threatened by staff and pushed beyond limits. I’ve also seen immature and unprofessional staff agitate and push mentally ill children past their breaking point. Staff are given descriptions about each patient. On these sheets include the warning signs and triggers of the patient. These warning signs and triggers are often ignored and result in the patient having an episode. The doctor by the name of Dr. Malik does not spend his time talking to or diagnosing patients. He is often in a rush to get it over with, which then results in the misdiagnosis of many patients. If you are looking for 1on1 individual therapy this facility is not for your child. Due to the acute having short staff issues you will maybe see the therapist once maybe twice if you’re lucky. Schoolwork is not offered here besides a couple of kiddy worksheets that are optional. This place needs to be investigated asap."
