Reviews of Apurva Makadiya, M.D.
"I have never felt so ignored an abandoned by a mental health professional in my life. I was reprimanded for not continuing to see the therapist he was working with despite her being the one to tell me I was "above her level of care" and telling me I need to find a new therapist. After being on my medications for several months my insurance was dictating 3 month refills which he refused. When I told him there was no way for me to pay out of pocket for my medications he all but told me "too bad" and would not work with my insurance. I didn't find out until 2 years later that the symptoms I was concerned about and brought up to him were NOT NORMAL and my new psych helped me figure out a better dose, while he told me I would adjust to it. Please advocate for your own mental and physical wellbeing. Life Span Behavioral Health helped me out of the hole that I had been left in after seeing this doctor. He does not have the care or mentality to be dealing with people that struggle with their mental health."
"During the inital intake call he told me his goal was to take me off the medications that have worked well for me for years. He also said that anxiety was a "short term issue" and that I wouldn't have it the rest of my life. Are you kidding me??? What a total quack!"
"I had been seeing Dr. Makadiya for several years. My father passed at the same time I was managing a very difficult situation at home. I voluntarily put myself in the hospital and Dr. Makadiya said he would not to see me me again because he heard I had been drinking (very short term), yet I had taken several critical steps towards moving forward (intensive treatment, medication, group therapy...). I don’t know what more I could have done as he was included in every step. I am so incredibly disappointed that someone who appeared to care shut the door when I needed help. Thank goodness for Behavioral Health Partners. They’ve helped in all capacity without judgement."
"After about a half hour of questions from this doctor, he cut the interview short and told me that we "weren't a good therapeutic fit". When I probed him for his reasoning, he said "I already told you, we are not a good therapeutic fit". To which I replied, "that is not an answer". It's called circular logic, or gaslighting (making the patient feel as though they are crazy due to confusing the facts). No other explanation, no empathy, even after I started crying out of frustration because I had waited for his appointment for 3 weeks. Absolutely no empathy or understanding. He escorted me out to the front and suggest that I see another one of his providers. I am hoping this other provider will be 100% better. Don't worry, his unprofessionalism and uncaring demeanor has been reported to Cigna (my insurance company) already, and there will be an investigation to make sure he is evaluated as a fit provider, and if he even deserves payment for this visit. I left their office in tears, which he saw, and I mentioned that I was considering going back to the hospital due to the lack of care he provided. Nothing seemed to get past his stony exterior. Please avoid this doctor all costs. By far, one of the worst psychiatrists I have ever encountered. I have never heard of a psychiatrist denying treatment of a patient, and hopefully, this will be the last time."
