"The main thing I like about Dennis (Maryland Select Hardwoods) is that he's kind and helpful. I came to him looking for just 1 board for a project! I told him this right away just in case he had minimum quantities or something. I'm not a woodworker and don't know much about wood. Instead of this being a barrier or causing a "you're wasting my time" attitude Dennis took the time to understand what I was trying to do and recommend the right wood to accomplish my goal. Aside from this we chatted for some time about crabbing, eeling, oystering, and fishing in the area. While in the barn you may get to enjoy the many hummingbirds flitting about that Dennis feeds. There is this really nice background smell of fresh cut wood. If you're very lucky the barn car (Charlie if I remember correctly) might come by and say hello. It's just a generally pleasant place. All in all the entire experience of just stopping by to pick up a board ended up feeling like a pleasant visit to chat with a fishing buddy, and I hope to have a reason to drop back in."

"During the pandemic I needed some 6"x6"x10' foot cedar post for a patio roof project. Western cedar was impossible to get. The owner suggested he would mill some eastern cedar logs he had in his lumber yard. Three days later I picked up my milled post at nearly half the cost of western cedar. They were rough sawn but well worth the extra labor and came out looking pretty good."
