Reviews of Dulles South Animal Emergency & Referral Hospital
"Outstanding communication, education, patience and support. Took our cat in for severe bad breath and loose tooth. While sad to learn our cat had severe tooth decay and issues, this Vet and support staff walked us thru our options, explained the impact to our cat, and were incredibly supportive throughout the process. We’ll be back. 5/5"
"My animals have had great veterinary care and I have had good service here; but, they are no longer taking "walk-in emergency appointments." This is no longer an "Emergency" vet or "24-hours" by any useful measure. The marketing is deceptive and likely to cost precious minutes during an actual crisis. I will be glad to update the score for the care my pets have received when the nonsense is corrected."
"I am very thankful for Dr. Luce and the staff at Dulles South Animal Emergency. They were able to get my dog seen quickly. They were very professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. Dr. Luce was very thorough which helped me understand my options and I felt very confident that he had my dog's best interest in mind. You can tell they really care about their patients. Thank you Dr. Luce and staff for being there for my baby and easing her pain. You are valued and very appreciated!"
"I recently visited Dulles South Animal Emergency after my primary vet told me my elderly dog had elevated bloodwork values that required IV fluid therapy. I chose this location because there were near my home and believed this would just be a IV therapy with a one night stay. Unfortunately after she was admitted and her baseline blood work was taken, her values had progressed even further as part of her existing kidney disease. Although, I'm thankful for them taking care of her for that 1 night- I feel it necessary provide feedback on the bedside manner and courtesy level of the staff. The calls received from the veterinarians, were not overly polite and in some ways extremely insensitive. They pushed for me to have them do an ultrasound, and after I declined- it seemed as though they had made up their mind about who I was and what I was going to do with my pup’s situation. I originally rejected the ultrasound because I was under the impression that one night stay would be ideal and my dog would come home the next day. The vets never took the time to help me understand the logic with pros/cons of the procedure, rather it came off as they assumed that I was going to reject the ultrasound and take my dog home to die. My dog is 17.5 years old and I have cared for her as if she was a human child – but they never seemed to want to find that out from me. The attitude from the vets that treated her was less than ideal, until we expressed an interest in transferring her. I recall one specific call for an update, that started with " What the end game here, this dog is super old and fragile”. It truly felt that they were all collectively hinting at me to put her down, with only knowing her for less than 24 hours. In addition, whenever I called to get data points such as her blood values- a nurse/receptionist (not all) told me that they could not give me a simple value – they didn’t offer to get someone who could, they just let the situation go and ended the call. I was not asking questions about how to make that values better, just a reference point of data. Overall, I ended transferring my pup to SouthPaws in Fairfax- which was the best decision I ever made. Their team has gone above and beyond to make sure she is comfortable, explain why they were doing each treatment, and spoke to me like a parent who was bringing their own to a human doctor – a breath of fresh air to put it lightly. Additionally, I DID end up doing the ultrasound and it was useful but I would have never known WHY based on the way the staff at Dulles South approached me. Our current veterinarians are thoughtful, informative about the pros/cons and have truly earned my business (which if you don’t have Pet Insurance is EXTREMELY expensive). To Dulles South team- when people pay $1K a night to hospitalize their family member, please note that usually means they love them dearly and they are willing to destroy their savings giving them a chance. After 17.5 years of love that my pup has given me, I would empty out my bank account just to have her for one more day...i just need help understanding, as I'm not a medical practitioner. In addition, when someone is paying 1K a night for overnight stay- they require some type of customer service and compassion from the veterinarians. I get better service from a rep at Amazon making minimum wage. I don't write this feedback lightly as I know how hard veterinarians work, as I mentioned my little sister is one. I just wish you could think twice and remember that not all pet parents are the same and some need some more data before making a decision. I can admit when I was wrong, I hope that you can too."
"Spencer was rescued and adopted as an elder dog with some medical issues. And we would do it all over again. We had to make that hard decision of letting her rest after a long, long, life with the help of Dr. Luce and the rest of DSVC. I am personally still fighting through all the stages of grief at her loss recently (6/17/19). but having seen how Spencer had declined quickly due to kidney disease...We couldn't see her in pain and withdrawn. She gave us 4 wonderful years. My wife and I have another pet, Toby, to care for. He's been sad/depressed. I'm thinking of bringing him to DSVC/Aldie to be his primary care--after seeing how their staff cared for Spencer and gave their emotional support for us...I know he would be cared for just as well. This was our experience...not many will have the same, but for us... DSVC/Aldie/Emergency Care--was the best they could offer in a short amount of time. Thank you."
