"One of my favorite Italian restaurants in DMV. I can’t describe in words how the experience from beginning till end is just so perfect. If you come after 5pm, they will validate your parking so no worries about Rosslyn parking issues. When you come inside, there are so many options of places to sit and the restaurant is very roomy. I’ve visited during lunch and dinner - the staff is wonderful. My favorite pasta to order is definitely the Tagliatelle Aglio e Olio. It is soooo smooth and silky. The fresh homemade pasta just melts in your mouth and fills you with the creamy garlic-y flavor. The burricotta cheese is the best part because it slowly melts into the pasta. The best dessert is definitely their Piemontese Gianduja, their chocolate hazelnut cake. It taste like nutty-choco decadence. Sometimes if you’re lucky, the server will bring some fresh complimentary gelato on the house and it is the perfect pairing with their cake slices. Best of all, when you’re all done and can’t eat anymore - your server will pack your food and give you a number slip. At the door you can grab your leftovers, all neatly packed for you for your safe travel home."
"So this was a holiday opportunity for us to do dinner with our two boys and Sfoglina looked like a good choice so we decided to give it a shot. The reality after spending $450 with only two drinkers was not what we had hoped for so I share this so that other families in the future can have a better experience and receive some value for their spending. First of all the booth was so wobbly that the hostess did not want to seat us at the table and instead put us at a four top by the bar which was also wobbly by enough to spill wine. This kind of basic front of house failure should tell you everything about how you are leading your team and the level of attention that your management team is spending on the customer experience. There is simply no reason at this price point to not have basic dining room things in place. Only complacency and lack of management skill can make that happen. The server Joseph was excellent. Attentive and in control and fabulous throughout the meal. Wine choices were good but probably at least 15% more expensive than they need to be. Prices were also listed and then more than were quoted on the menu which I assume is a 9oz pour but that seems like a little bit of a bait and switch. As for the food, everything that you did not make was great. Burrata, prosciutto, rosemary bread were excellent. Avocado salad was too spicy. The spice should be a flavor profile on something like that, not a punch and we did not finish it even thought we like spice and found the salsa in the avocado to be delicious. The braised beef agnolotti was excellent. The branzino was just a pile of olives and it prevented us from enjoying the fish. The potato gnocchhi was just all mushroom. The pasta actually seemed quite good but the mushroom was so overwhelming that it was hard to tell. No delicate touch here. The tagliatelle was watery and you could not even taste the oil. Agli e olio is one of my favorites because it appears deceptively simple but requires care to pull off. This was inedible. Maggianos and Macaroni Grill both do it much better which is frustrating. Finally, we ordered some garlic bread with dinner and it was cold, burned and even my boys who will eat anything and did not touch it after the first bite. Overall just a super frustrating experience because you can tell that the restaurant has potential but no one is checking the food and it shows."
"All-around great spot for Italian in Rosslyn! Sfoglina has a super lively atmosphere, friendly service, and a solid variety of delicious food. I've visited a few times, and each time have been super impressed by how welcoming and accommodating of dietary restrictions the staff has been -- Italian places are generally tough for folks who are gluten-free, but they have a number of gluten-free items (or substitutions), and the servers are diligent about checking with the kitchen to confirm the ingredients. My latest (and favorite) visit was for Summer Restaurant Week in 2023; the meal came with three courses, starting with a delicious and refreshing salad, and ending with an equally delicious and refreshing sorbet for dessert. My entree of choice was their olive oil poached Icelandic cod, which was perfectly flaky and tender. The capers and squid ink made the dish quite the umami flavor bomb, and I would absolutely visit again just to indulge in their cod again. The king of their menu is, of course, their giant selection of pasta. If you're feeling indecisive, you can get a pasta flight to share with your table and sample three plates (which is honestly just a tiny fraction of their menu, but still a delicious fraction). They don't explicitly call this out on their menu, but you can also order a half portion of any of their pastas, which is great if you're not feeling super hungry or if you want to try out two different entrees. All in all, Sfoglina is a vibrant restaurant with lovely service and fantastic food -- highly recommend for your next Italian craving!"
"The pasta here didn’t wow us after spending two weeks in Sicily and northern Italy. The cocktail was another disappointment- it was overpriced at $18/cocktail, and this is coming from someone who lives in Manhattan. At that price range, I am expecting a speakeasy-level quality, but this was just some run-of-the-mill cocktail with a creative name that didn’t make it better. I was looking forward to the branzino, but the olives didn’t go well with the fish. The only dish worth highlighting was a burrata - the crispy cheese cracker was delicious."
"The only downside I can think is that this place is a little overpriced. However, that's the only negative I can think of this place. The noodles and meats are incredibly fresh. One major issue Italian cuisine has is that it can be a little heavy given the combination of sauce and noodles. This place doesn't have that issue - even after eating an appetizer, 2 entrees, and dessert, it all felt light and delicious. I highly recommend the lobster squid ink pasta. It's a delicious pairing where all the different ingredients work well together. The dish is expensive, but is worth the try. I look forward to going back and trying other items in their menu, and their other house made desserts!"
