Reviews of Yi Fa Hair Salon
"Today when I went to this salon the wait time was not bad but this barber the one I got was pushing my head around with the comb it hurt and after that I didn’t get the hair cut the way I showed him after that they forced me to give a tip to them I do not recommend when I came home I went to brush my hair and my head felt like it was bleeding"
"I have been going to this salon for about 10 years, with my family. The owner is Ms. Zheng, and the gentleman is Mr. Xue (pronounced like "suede" without the d). Both are from the Fujian area of Southern China and each used to run a salon there (they are not a couple). Both are very kind, gentle people, and both are complete professionals. Despite limited English, you can show pictures to them (or point to the ones on the wall), and they take their time to do a superb job. As others have commented, I have found that Ms. Zheng does better with women's styles (my mother-in-law loves her work), and Mr. Xue with men's styles (he's my go-to guy). These people do a painstaking job that you could expect to pay 3x more for somewhere else. I have moved out of state but go back to Upper Darby to visit them - just went over Labor Day and, as usual, we are thrilled with the results!"
"I have been coming to this hair salon since I was a little kid. Overall, the two hairdressers are nice people. They mainly speak another language (I don’t want to assume) and have a solid understanding of English. Bringing a picture of what you want done to your hair is recommended. The woman does a fairly good job of matching your desired hairstyle. However, do not let the guy cut your hair if you are female/someone with longer hair. He will give you a bob if you want a shorter hairstyle no matter what the picture looks like. This has happened to me 3 times so far. In recent years, it seems that they count the amount for the tip along with the price of your haircut, making it pricier."
"I’ve been going to this salon twice a year since I was a kid. Prices are unbeatable and even if the haircuts weren’t cheap I’d still come here. The salon is able to keep up with trends throughout the years— I’ve gone from a layered hairstyle in 2010s to a curtain bangs cut in 2020. Even though I live far away I always wait until I visit Philly to get my haircut because I can’t trust anyone else to cut my hair the way I want it. My women’s haircut costs around $15 excluding tip and it’s cheaper than men’s haircuts in other salons in the city. Men’s haircut here is around $10 excluding tip. They’re also able to keep up with men’s trends throughout the years including fades, crew cuts, whatever guys get"
"Absolutely love it here!! I’ve been getting my haircut and styled here for almost 20 years! They’re so nice, very fast, and reasonably priced! I won’t go anywhere else for a haircut! It’s $10 for a men’s haircut and $12 for women (sometimes it’s a few dollars more if you have longer/thicker hair) but those prices can’t be beat! They definitely get crowded because of how good they are, so just be patient or try to go there on off hours because they don’t do appointments. For women they may cut a little bit more than you ask for (like every other hair stylist) so I always say half an inch shorter than what I really want. It’s a no frills salon but you’ll be happy with the results."
