"We had a group of 4 decide to play the front 9 this morning. We were on time, all wearing appropriate attire. Now, three of us were very much beginners and we expected to play rather slow. The course was empty for the most part, except for about 2-3 other groups. These groups were all smaller than our own so we politely let them play through as they caught up. We kept the carts on the path, did not cause any disruptions, and were quiet throughout the game. On hole 7 a short brunette woman pulled up next to us and immediately starts berating all of us for playing too slow and “holding up the whole course”. No one was within three holes of us at the time. She even claimed “letting people play through doesn’t help, it just causes delays” which was comical considering the rules on the cart stated to let smaller groups play through. Also let me make clear, she did not nicely ask for us to speed up our pace of play, she yelled for several minutes in a rude and condescending tone and then followed us for the last holes to watch our every stroke. Absolutely uncalled for and unprofessional. I would rather take a driver to miniature golf then play another 9 here."
"I’ve been playing golf for around 10 years and have never had such a negative experience on a golf course. I was playing with three others who are all new to the game. We set a tee time and arrived on time. We replaced our divots and ball marks, were respectful of the course and let other groups play through as the rules clearly dictate. There were only two groups that caught up to us and both had two players vs our foursome. Naturally two players play faster than four even if both groups have the same skill set (we didn’t). Then on hole 7 a small brunette woman wearing a WVU hoodie and pajama pants drives up and scolds us for playing so slowly. She told us that we were holding up the entire course (again…2 groups played through and no one else was in sight) and that we needed to pick up our balls and leave. Then she backed off and said we, at least, needed to pick up the pace. She then shadowed us for the rest of the 9 holes. Were we playing slow? Absolutely. Were we holding anyone up? Absolutely not. Our only crime was offending her ego and massive inferiority complex. With the number of people playing golf diminishing, I would think the owners and management at Mountaineer Golf Course would have been thrilled to have four people spend their money there but apparently not. There are a lot of other golf courses in Morgantown. My advice: play somewhere else…anywhere else."
"First time going to this course and was slightly disappointed. Course condition is fine, but no visible fairways make for an overall unenjoyable experience. Green condition however was very good. After 9 holes it started to pour rain. What was most disappointing is that they were unwilling to give any sort of rain check or refund after we were unable to play the back 9. Their course policy regarding this was disappointing to stay the least. Expensive visit to not be able to finish the course."
"It's very apparent that the new Owners, Mark and Janice, have been working hard on improvements to the course. We played while visiting the area on vacation and were very glad we did! The greens run true and at a very nice speed. Fairways were in good shape and must drain well. We were surprised it was not cart path only given all the rain the three days prior. The Owners and staff could not have been more pleasant or helpful! It's wonderful to meet people that seem to genuinely enjoy what they do. We travel and play a lot of golf and have experienced many different personality types at various courses... the team at Mountaineer rocks!"
"Awesome place. Very well maintained and great people. It took us 5 hrs to get there, but it was all worth it. Well mapped and easy to navigate. I got camo color gloves from their shop.... Looks incredible. Definitely recommended for enthusiasts and beginners."
