Reviews of Neversink River Unique Area
"Awesome hike. Not overly complex. We did it with our 3 yr old and our dog. Beautiful overall. Rocky trails. Some water on the trail but nothing too crazy. I'd probably wait on this one if it's been super rainy (i.e. muddy). Bugs weren't bad. Sturdy footwear is recommended. Parking seemed like it could be hard but we lucked out."
"First thing I'm going put out is there is absolutely no service on this trail. So if you're using any type of gps/trail app you must download offline Maps. Other than that. It's beautiful. Watch out for bears and bow Hunters in the off season."
"My trip to Neversink River in Cuddebackville, NY was definitely an unforgettable experience. I went there for one reason: fishing. I saw online that NYS stocks the River every year with 5,000 trout. So I decided to try and catch some fish. I went there with 2 set ups. One for bass and one for trout. My bass setup consisted of gap hooks, and offset worm hooks to be used in combination with Zoom Salty Super Fluke White Pearl jig, and PowerBait black and blue curl tail jig. My trout set up consisted of Corn and Pink PowerBait putty on a single hook leaderline tied to a barrel swivel in front of a sliding 3/4 lb. weight. I decided to use fluorocarbon 12 lb. line as well. The River was awesome, the rapids were flowing and there was quite a bit of force and water pressure. I’m not sure if boats or canoes are allowed but if using one for fishing purposes, you would definitely need an anchor. First I went to location (41.4964740, -74.6483030). This spot yielded no catches. I threw my bass jig around all the rocks there and nothing came up. So I quickly left the area and went to 3rd Avenue which was about 2.5 or 3 miles away. At this location, I had more luck. I tied up my trout rig and I got great casts. I threw long for about 20-30 yards into the rapids. The trout were hungry and nibbling the PowerBait. Some even took the bait off the hook easy. A few too many times my 3/4 lb. weight kept getting stuck on the bottom of the River but I didn’t lose any of my rigging. I decided to shorten up my leaderline which was about 2 feet in length to about 12-15 inches. The trout continued to steal the bait. Overall, I feel like the battle between me and the trout isn’t over yet and I’m sure we will encounter each other again. Next time I will bring more jigs, and a variety of fishing equipment to give me an advantage of fishing for trout among the rapids of Neversink River. The area is heavily populated so I will note to be respectful to the locals as we are literally fishing in their backyards in Cuddebackville. Overall it was a pretty awesome experience and you must come prepared because these stocked trout can steal the bait off a single hook very easily. Cool as ever, I had the whole place to myself. Very serene, peaceful and exactly what I needed in a fishing trip."
"It was a great, challenging hike for me. I'm not an avid hiker, though not a beginner either. The falls were beautiful, and the journey there was amazing. This is one of the most unique trails I've been on. It has more vegetation along the way than I've ever seen. And I can't wait to see the rhododendrons in bloom! Beautiful hike, but not for the faint of heart."
"Nice peaceful trail! Very quiet and you hear lots of birds chirping. I just wish that they had some kind of indication or map of destinations on the trail. Without them, you just keep going on and on and you don't even know how much longer you need to hike or what's ahead of you or when to turn around."
