Evans-Mumbower Mill 200 Swedesford Road, North Wales, PA 19454
About the Business
Located at 200 Swedesford Road in North Wales, Pennsylvania, the Evans-Mumbower Mill is a fascinating tourist attraction that pays homage to the industrial revolution in America. Situated near the headwaters of the Wissahickon Creek, this 18th century automated water mill showcases the innovative use of simple machines and the highly efficient overshot water wheel that revolutionized productivity during that time.
Originally built in 1744 by Abraham Evans, the current structure was erected in 1835 by John and Elisa Keefe. The mill was later owned by Henry Mumbower, who ran it until his passing in 1892. Thanks to the efforts of Wissahickon Trails and generous donations, the mill was restored in 1987 and now hosts monthly open houses for the public to witness the grinding of corn into flour using the power of falling water.
In addition to being a historical landmark, the Evans-Mumbower Mill also offers educational programs for local fourth grade students to learn about simple machines and factory operations. Visitors are encouraged to attend one of the mill's events and witness history come alive in this iconic American landmark.

Reviews
"It wasn’t open on Sunday. I want to return and get some shots inside."
"Beautiful spot! I sat by the water and it was so tranquil. I love the old mill but it was not open."
"Historic mill that still functions thanks to the Wissahickon watershed association. Today they had the water wheel turning as it powered the gears to turn the rudder stone and grind corn. The dam that used to create the reservoir that powered the mill is a half mile up the green ribbon trail. They also do blacksmith demonstrations."
"This is a beautiful spot. I'd really like to get back for a tour of the mill. The surrounding Green Ribbon Trail is maintained by the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association, and it's great for nature walking or even trail running."
"So glad this hisorical property is preserved; a relaxing, tranquil place to visit! Next time I hope they're open so we can check out the inside of the mill. It looks neat from the windows. There are also some great trails here that follow along the creek."
