Reviews of The Lab at Armens Barrels
"Went last Saturday with a friend. The staff was so accommodating and the owner, Armen was a fantastic host. The Chef goes up to each table to get feedback and is genuinely curious about feedback and criticism you might or might not have. LAB at Armens Barrels if definitely an atmosphere that is worth the drive if you live in Pittsburgh or if you want to impress friends and family. I definitely will be back just to try more of the cocktails and other menu items I couldn't get to before. Please go, it's a must!"
"Wow, first impressions were tops! First visit to this unexpected gem not far from where we live, but it won'y be our last. Our evening started with the best cocktails - mine was "Bill's Cafe," an espresso-based yummy drink that disappeared too quickly but I couldn't stop myself. We ordered some shareables which were amazing - the Local Goat Rodeo Farms Chevre was such a great combination of salty and sweet - and the Crispy Brussel Sprouts with the lemon aioli and parmesan were crispy and not skimpy on the cheese. For entrees, I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass with creamy risotto and could've licked the plate! The fish was perfectly cooked and the sauce was so good. My husband ordered the elk which he devoured and claimed it was so tender and flavorful (he did give me one bite so I agree with his assessment). We both enjoyed the risotto; it was creamy, cheesy and probably put about 10 pounds on me but it was worth it. The chef brought out some savory paper-thin sliced truffles that added a really nice depth to the risotto - yum! Although I was happily full, my husband actually ordered cheesecake for dessert, and finished every bite. All in all, service was prompt, the atmosphere was nice and moody, but the food itself was the star(s). Go!"
"Sub standard food and service. 5 people for dinner was $480 with gratuity. Server was barely at the table. Crab dip had zero crab flavor. Calamari and mushrooms were tasty. All meals got risotto that was bland and gummy. Duck cooked mid well. Chicken Marsala had a mushroom gravy with zero Marsala flavor. Lamb was decent but over cooked. Had to ask for add on shrimp and shaved truffles because we heard another server offer it to the table next to us. Server offered us desserts bought at Sam’s Club. She explained that they bought them at Sam’s because the person who makes deserts has been ill. Extremely disappointed."
"A unique experience! The Lab at Armens Barrels took an old skating rink in a small town, and turned it into a high-end restaurant! Our menu choices: First course: Charcuterie Plate. Chef’s Selection, Seasonal Garnish. Second Course: Kale Salad. Candied Bacon/Avocado/Parmesan/Red Wine Vinaigrette/Sunny Side Up Egg. Third Course: Brazilian Flank Steak. Cowboy Seasoned/Chimichurri Finished. If I can say anything about the meals, I would wish that the proteins with come with a side and/or veggie, not charged separately. Fingerling potatoes, etc…Bread service would also be a nice addition. The food is very good, but portions are small for the price. The food seems to be off balance with the look of the restaurant. I always like to try places at least once. It was a nice experience.."
