"I just encountered 2 of the rudest, nastiest people I’ve ever met. They reside in the caretaker’s house near the entrance of camp Coffman. I arrived at the gate around 5:45pm with my wife, daughter and her boyfriend who just flew in from Fl. My daughter wanted to show her boyfriend the swinging bridge she used to enjoy as a child with her Grandmother, who by the way, gifted that bridge to the park many years ago. She was the former Mayor of Knox and philanthropic to a fault. The sign at the gate says members only. I am a YMCA member. No one was around, so we drove to the back where the bridge was located. I feared the front gate may close at 6:00, so we only stayed 10 minutes, but what a great memory…until we attempted to leave. The gate had closed, but now there was a car at the caretaker’s house and the lights were on, so I knocked on the door and asked if they would let us out. These two angry caretakers proceeded to berate me for trespassing and weren’t the least bit interested in why we were there. They said they were sick of unauthorized persons entering the park. I’m a 70 year old man and have never been spoken to like that in my life. What a shame to have that kind of energy at such a beautiful park and what poor representation for the YMCA. I guess help is hard to find."
"(Take this review for whatever you wish...I normally don't post negative stuff so this one must have been bad for me to write a review.) We recently stayed as guests in the Fisherman's cabin during our son's wedding weekend. When we finally got into the cabin (as it took hours to be given the code from staff after arriving Friday) the cabin was dirty, with soiled bedclothes. It looked as if it was still being occupied by someone. There was cobwebs and dust and dirt everywhere. I could not clean it because there was no running water, plumbing in this particular cabin. It was a box with beds, a couch and table and chairs with a small kitchen area. The only part that was great, was it had a refrigerator. There were hornet nests all around this place and I was stung by a nasty bee when I was walking up to the cabin on the porch facing the pond. My son was in an Airbnb on the grounds and his cabin did not have air conditioning. When maintenance showed up Saturday after we called them, they acted put off by being there and seemed upset. They also said there was no air conditioning in this particular cabin. Its July my friends and can be pretty hot especially for wedding parties that are wearing 3 piece suits. A simple window unit would be better than nothing. These are your target clients. Take care of them at minimum! If I had no other experience of Camp Coffman, I would run for the hills on this place. But I have been to this facility before (never stayed in any park cabins however) and have had decent experiences with staff. There was NO one around this weekend to ensure that guests were taken care of by the park with the exception of 1 maintenance guy. When we were getting the hall ready Friday, a maintenance guy came in. We asked him for the codes and he looked like he had no clue. We also asked him for assistance to move heavy picnic tables and benches to the pavilion and he said he would bring a tractor to help us soon...he never showed up. We had to move it all by ourselves. This was NOT an easy feat and one that I would not trust to the older people in groups to do. The prices seem to be a reason that you are expected to virtually do EVERYTHING when you are booking this venue. Beware as there is a LOT of stuff you will need to be responsible for when staying here, from collecting ALL the garbage on premise, to cleaning cabins before and after you stay. I'd go somewhere else if I had a large wedding group with various ages."
"Very nice place for a wedding. We were guests at a family wedding and loved the area. Very clean buildings and facilities. Easy to walk around. Log cabin type reception/dining area. Pavillion was a beautiful place for the wedding."
"My partner's cousin rented out the campground for the weekend of their wedding. What a fabulous idea! We were all able to stay and be near one another before and after the ceremony, while going at our own pace. The accommodations were decent (for what they are, you know, only one cabin has running water, so just be ready to tough it a bit) and the grounds are gorgeous. Hiking, fishing, paddle boating, zip lining - try it all while you're there!"
