"It's free here. There is a railroad track across the river. If you go to bed at night, the sound of passing trains can make it difficult to sleep. Please forgive that."
"Great free hiker biker campground. Basic toilet nearby or a nicer bathroom with sink within a short walking distance. It looks like firewood was provided. 3 covered adirondack shelters, just get there relatively early. My first trip all 3 were open, my last trip all 3 were taken but several spots to hang my hammock. There are also some picnic tables. The only drawback is the trains that run past several times throughout the night, but what are you going to do; it comes with the territory. Highly recommend."
"wow!!!...i bike hundreds of miles on the GAP trail...and cedar creek is very nice..tent or hammock...nice locale..and water source!!..nice its there for lengthy riders like myself...well done cedar creek..."
"Wow! What a gem. After a long day of biking I figured this was going to be just a plot of land with a bathroom and water. No, not at all. They have firewood, a grill, sitting tables, they have it all, except electricity. It’s the perfect place to stop for a night while biking the gap. Also it’s free which I couldn’t wrap my head around based off of how great the accommodations were. There are three of those little huts. Which is great if you’re solo riding, you know there will be people close by in the event of something happening. Do yourself a favor and make this a part of your GAP experience."
"I've stayed here twice on two trips while riding the Great Allegheny Passage from Pittsburgh to DC. It's a short 40 mile day from Point State Park Fountain in Pittsburgh but it's a nice camp if you have the time to include it as a stop. You could start in Coraopolis PA on the Montour Trail meeting up with the GAP in McKeesport to make it a 58 mile first day. The hiking/biking camp is located just as you exit Cedar Creek Park if riding the GAP from North to South. It's free for users of the Great Allegheny Passage. It has two lean-to shelters and a number of tent pads for pitching tents. There are plenty of sturdy trees for hanging a hammock as well. I spent my first visit in a hammock and the second in the lean-to. Both trips were in October and there were other trail users in camp while I was there which was nice. Although that also means the lean-to shelters get taken quickly. You can get access to the Youghiogheny River by walking through some brush. The camp has a pit toilet and potable water with a hose. It also has a couple tables with roofs for making dinner or just hanging out which was nice when it rained on my last trip. As with most campsites on the GAP and C&O Canal it is located in close proximity to active train tracks, straight across the Youghiogheny. Bring ear plugs as you'll hear trains running all night."
