Reviews of Michaels
"Still my favorite craft store. Always helpful staff, friendly and I can find what I need at a decent price."
"Free parking. Large store, well organized. Coupons are available on their website. Lots of options in their merchandise."
"Didn't have the Sudoku book I wanted but this store is awesome for any type of craft project"
"**Update** The assistant manager at the store contacted me (surprise surprise), wanting to get "my side of the story." I told it--again--and he immediately denied any wrongdoing. I was told that Michaels is a "bastion" for the LGBT community and any homophobia was therefore impossible. He didn't acknowledge my concerns; he didn't even address the fact that the cashier refused to engage with me. I was basically told that I was wrong/overreacting/imagining things. -- Original review: I went in to purchase paint with my girlfriend (I'm a woman), and the older woman at the register was extremely brusque. I told her I had a rewards voucher on my phone, but I didn't know how to use it. She ignored me the first two times I told her; the third time, she told me she couldn't look it up and it was my responsibility to have it ready (once again, I told her it was in my phone; it was pulled up and I had it right in front of her). It took several minutes of arguing with her just to get her to use it. It was clear she was intentionally ignoring me and trying to move me through the line without using the voucher. Now, there are a couple of possible causes for this interaction: the first is that this cashier was alone, there was a line behind us, and she was obviously not coping well. The other, much more worrying, possibility, is that she acted that way because she saw me being close with my girlfriend. I honestly can't think of any other reason for her rudeness and her refusal to answer what turned out to be a simple question. It was like she didn't want to listen to me or even look at me. After she saw I was getting upset, she made loud claims that she was perfectly nice to me and had done nothing wrong. She made the same claims to my girlfriend, who was checking out behind me. Unfortunately, when I addressed it with the manager (the entire interaction had left a bad taste in my mouth, and I decided to return the paint), the manager defended the employee, saying it was my responsibility to have the voucher ready (which, as mentioned, I did. That made two employees who ignored what I was saying). Given that reaction, I felt uncomfortable bringing up any possibility of discrimination. I was already upset at that point, and I didn't want to deal with the possibility of homophobia being dismissed or defended, too. I'm so disappointed with this store. The employees have always been awesome during my previous visits, both when I'm alone and with my girlfriend. I want to say I believe that this incident was a fluke, but given the current anti-LGBT climate in this country, I'm not sure I feel comfortable or safe shopping at this location any more."
"Melissa has been such a great help and stress reliever for me at this particular Michaels! She went above and beyond to help me get my stuff out the cart and rang up efficiently. She answered all of my questions with no problem and helped me feel reassured about my LOAD of items. Her patience and service turned my stress and uncertainties into a wonderful experience and left that store beyond happy! Thank you Melissa !"
