Reviews of El Shaddai Hair Salon
"I have had better PARTIAL highlights from Hair Cuttery for far less than $330."
"In general a let down and will not come back. I was overcharged for very basic services by starting an unnecessary process. I brought my mom for very basic grey root coverage, single color and haircut. Prices are listed on the website. My mother arrived before I could. I was misinformed on the phone, and stylist had started bleach for supposed color correction that wouldn’t have mattered anyways. It was two hours into the appointment and hardly back of a head and quarter of one side foils were done. I asked them to stop as it is not needed and just apply one color closest to what she has (my original appointment). At this point I was informed that I will still be charged for material and time. I was ok with it because they had only done foiling on little less than half of the head. Another another 3 hours a simple bob cut and single color application was done. My bill was over 550 with tips. Completely unnecessary and a rip off. Same roots coverage could have been done from the beginning. The stylist was nice but I feel guidance from the owner was insufficient. She knew I am antsy about the process and stylist went back thrice to ask for next steps. I have been taking my mom to her regular stylist (who now moved) for same stuff for half the cost in a very nice and efficient salon. She would do things in half of the time and her hair were always great till stylist moved to Arlington. For comparison, I went for my own full head coverage, two tone balayage, color correction (getting rid of pink and blonde peekboo hairstyle) Olaplex treatment and hair cut with curls at another hair salon same day and paid $20 less than what this place charged me for my mother’s thin and very short hair. (Happy to share contact of my salon). My mom kept squirming due to stylist pulling foils and cleaning bleach from strands with a hand towel. Old people have hypersensitive scalps; bleaches and pulling strands is a big no no. My disappointment is due to a full charge for partial highlights (no toner/color applied just half head foil), then god knows for what. I liked the stylist and would have gone back if the billing was reasonable. My bill was last nail in the coffin. The amount of time that we dedicated to get few strands colored was more than what I spent on a gall bladder surgery. If you want to take exuberant number of hours to do most basic things, client is not responsible to pay for a flawed business approach or coloring strategy. Plus I still don’t understand the purpose behind color correction when I told stylist over the phone that any shade closer to what she has will be fine. I kept repeating myself as politely as I could to stop the bleaching process. Guess what after the single color no one could tell what part of head was color corrected and what part was not. I checked again in full day light before writing this review. Just a very strange situation all and all. I also want to write review so no one ends up there due to amazing rating and googles algorithm."
"I don’t normally do reviews, but based on my Dominican curly- thick, chemically untreated hair experience (in this area for over 10 years), I felt compelled to write one. Valerie is amazing! She truly enjoys her craft and her mission is giving you the best experience/outcome based on your hair/expectations. With one consultation, she educated me on what to do based on my goals. She’s such a sweet soul that I trusted her with my kids’ haircuts, both of whom are under 3. They loved her and we loved their haircuts. As far as the person who provided a negative review based at least in part on her humming and Christian music, I would like to respond. While some folks may find her humming offensive, I love it because she absolutely loves her craft, and it shows in her attitude. Who wants a stiff doing YOUR hair? I don’t! While she recommends what is best, she’s far from pushy about it — again, she’s all about educating her clients. Now let’s talk about her “ Christian music.” I’m not Christian (my husband is Jewish though), but it doesn’t bother me. First, it’s not loud. Second, even if were loud (which it isn’t), it’s music about being thankful that we are alive and we have hope. I’m trying to understand how that can be offensive to anyone (I assume we all agree that we are thankful for these basic gifts, regardless of religion). Anyhow, what’s truly important is that Valerie is super cool, loves her craft, and is wonderful with both kids and adults. I recommend her!"
"Today was my first time at El Shaddai Hair Salon and I had a great experience! Margaret did a beautiful job on my hair. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and she made recommendations on how to make the style I wanted work for my hair type and lifestyle. So glad I went there! Great service and very reasonably priced for the type of quality of styling you’re getting."
"I started going to see Valerie after a friend recommended her to me. Valerie is a master colorist, I have been dying my hair since my teens and now in my 40s wanted to brave my natural gray/silver hair. It was a big undertaking and any colorist will tell you it’s incredibly hard to match silver roots and especially without damaging the hair. At every stage in the process I left Valerie with lovely color - I’ve had wet balayage, highlights, tones and can say she is really a genius with color. She listens, she has a lovely temperament and her salon has a calm vibe, absolutely no pretension. She never rushes, she wants you to be happy and to come back. I highly recommend Valerie for a major transformation or careful maintenance! You won’t be disappointed :)"
