"Really wanted this to be a five-star, come back every summer kind of place. The fire pits were not designed for camp fires- so each night, the black belching smoke from each site got so bad we had to hide in our car for a few hours. The metal tubs need more air flow at the very bottom. If only we'd brought a drill, we'd have gone around in the daytime, fixing them by adding holes. Come on, this is supposed to be a nature reserve. How much carbon is this place responsible for with these awful things?! It is an easy fix for the park. People don't read the no food out signs either, so all of our neighbors were raided by horses one evening. PUT YOUR FOOD AWAY, and don't eat in the open! The horses show up whenever they feel like and you're not going to be able to stop them by yelling. I LOVED being on the beach - falling asleep and waking up to the waves crashing was perfect. It's too bad that the quiet hours aren't enforced at all, and other campers stay up past midnight, shining bright lights in your tent like creepy weirdos. That last bit is not really the fault of the park, but it is something to consider bc the spots are right on top of each other. The showers were nice at the end of a sandy, sun screen filled day. And the pit toilets weren't absolutely gross, much better than the alternative. The beach itself is meh. The water is very choppy due to the topography of the underlying coastline. You don't have a lot of room for wave jumping before the sand beneath dips down significantly. If you can push through to the sand bar further out you might be OK but getting out there on a windy day is like trying to roller skate up an escalator that's going down- very hard to make progress! We really wanted to like the place and did have a good time together but don't recommend it and will not be returning."
"What an amazing location for camping on the beach! I would call it a paradise. We went for camping in May 2019. Our stay was for 1 night and we all were mesmerized by the beauty and serenity of the place. Very clean beach. Check in was very easy and we had a peaceful night under the moon and in front of the Ocean."
"Clean site with fire pit and table. All you need for a great camping"
"Camping on the beach was amazing. There was privacy. The breeze it beautiful and its very quiet. The beach doesn't get crowded either. The showers are not ideal and to use the bathroom you must use a porta potty. The horse flies are AWFUL so definitely bring tons of bug spray. It's great for family trips or even romantic trips too."
"Camping was amazing. I really don't even know what to write about this place. Very friendly and helpful ranger station. Site was full but felt private. Was like having a private beach when I went for a swim. Was told to bring deet repellent, didn't have to use any. Maybe I got lucky. Seeing the horses just chilling by the water was absolutely amazing. $20 entrance fee to the park,40 for the year or 80 for a national pass. The 40 is definitely worth it. At less than 3 hours away I will be headed here often. Showers are close to the campsite. 4.75 for bundles of firewood. Super experience."
