"Wonderful customer service! They truly care for your hair. I have been a client for several years and have recommended many friends and family members who also have become repeat customers. I am born and raised in the DMV and this is the only braiding salon that I trust with my hair :)"
"Sugar Braid provides great care when serving their clients. Not only are they focused on quality and style, more importantly they work to keep your hair healthy! I can trust in them to style my hair for all of my fun travels :)"
"I really enjoyed my experience at Sugar Braid. The staff was very friendly. They also braid fast without compromising quality. I’m so happy my friend referred me to them. I love my knotless braids and I will definitely return when I want more braids in the future."
"I booked an appointment for Friday 6/24 at 2:30 pm for butterfly locs at Sugar Braid based on a friend's experience with box braids, before my honeymoon on 6/25. The price online was $200 (not "starting at" $200) for a 4-hour service, with a $40 deposit. I arrived around 2:20 pm for the appointment. I believe I began with the owner, who talked to me about different butterfly loc methods for about 10 minutes, and we agreed on the braid and crochet method (which I had never done before). She proceeded to moisturize my hair, but then left the room without letting me know what came next. She eventually came back and said another stylist would be with me; it wasn't clear which of the other stylists in the shop that day (there were 2-3 more stylists there) was the one she was referring to. I was waiting for about 30 minutes without communication from anyone, until one stylist started parting and loosely twisting my hair. Then two more stylists came and began to braid and twist my hair into extremely tiny sections. I'm inexperienced with the crochet method, and I thought the braids were too small--but I didn't speak up because I was worried about our language barrier and was already concerned about the time delay. The owner was nowhere to be found as the 2 stylists braided my hair in what could only be called microbraids for almost 2 hours, with one stylist preparing braids for the other to twist while also braiding herself (the 2nd stylist seemed to be apprenticing/was less experienced, which took even longer). The owner came back around 4:00 pm--when the stylists were almost done braiding my entire head--and told the stylists (in French) that the braids were too small. At no point did the owner stop to tell ME the braids were small and we should reassess the style, or start over, or any other solution. My smattering of French was all that kept me abreast of what was changing. I asked the owner repeatedly how much longer the crochet portion would take and she could not give me a true estimate, despite me having a flight to catch and me relying on a 4-hour appointment. I was the only client in the shop. The owner and 2 stylists began to crochet the locs onto my hair, which was at first painless but eventually became deeply painful over time as the braids were tiny, meaning the crochet needle was dragging on my scalp and the locs were weighing down braids with not enough substance to withstand the weight. At the end of the appointment, I was charged $350, which was a complete surprise and was not communicated up front or during the appointment. I left with the tightest, most painful scalp I've ever experienced (I tend to do Marley twists and box braids from other shops). I've spent most of my honeymoon in overwhelming scalp pain with redness and traction bumps, despite taking painkillers and using scalp serums. My husband had to help me take down some of my locs to provide relief; it took 1 hour to remove 4 locs due to knotting thanks to the tiny size of the underlying braid. I am dreading taking the entire head down, which I will have to when I return to the U.S. in a week. I will not be patronizing Sugar Braid again. I've shared photos so you can see the tightness, scalp irritation, and size of the underlying braids/twists."
"There are not enough words to describe how pleased I am with Sugar Braids! I found them on Instagram and reached out for a microloc consultation. I loved the energy and professionalism I experienced and the consultation and decided to book with them. They were able to get me in a few days later. For a style that’s supposed to take anywhere from 22+ hours, they had me washed, steamed, and done in under 8! I was very comfortable, everyone was kind and professional! I would recommend Sugar Braids to anyone looking for hair care because they really do care about the health of your hair along with completing a quality and neat style! Oh and to top it off, they’re very affordable- and did I mention they actually wash your hair?!?! BOOK WITH THEM for your braids, locs, weaves, etc TODAY!!!"
