Reviews of Whiskey & Oyster
"It's important to note that this was Restaurant Week where restaurants tend to be busier, which is why I give the service only three stars. It took a very long time for us to get our drinks, and a very long time for the server to come back and check on us. The food was good but unfortunately nothing to really rave about. I do recommend trying the harissa butter and Chipotle bourbon butter for the grilled oysters. When ordering the scallops, please know that you're only getting a few scallops on a plank board, which hardly seems worth the $35 that was spent on it. For dessert I recommend either the chocolate torte or the beignets. The options for restaurant week were disappointing, especially when most other restaurants are offering a prix fixe menu. One positive note, they had an impressive whiskey selection. I'm glad we tried this restaurant, but it was not enough for me to want to come back."
"I recently experienced the brunch offerings at Whisky and Oyster in Alexandria, VA. The accessibility of paid street parking right outside or nearby parking lots provides a convenient entry to this establishment. The allure of an extensive bourbon menu, coupled with the allure of $1 specials every third Wednesday, intrigued me. The oyster selection, which prompted us to upgrade from half a dozen to a full dozen, was truly excellent. Our culinary journey continued with a Lobster Omelette, W&O Egg Sandy, and Whiskey's All American, all of which delivered delightful flavors, with the exception of the misleadingly named cheddar grits. These sides lacked the substantial cheddar presence expected from traditional grits. The drink selection, featuring the Best Old Fashions and Chia Latte, proved commendable, though priced a bit higher than average. While nothing stood out as extraordinary, they hit the spot, especially for old-fashioned whisky enthusiasts. The beignets, however, deviated from traditional expectations, resembling more of a light croissant than the classic beignet texture. A notable drawback was the inattention to special requests. Despite marking the occasion as a birthday, neither the hostess nor the waitress inquired further. This oversight raises questions about the purpose of such markings if they go unnoticed. In conclusion, Whisky and Oyster is an excellent dining option, particularly if you assertively advocate for your preferences. The misleading names for dishes and oversight on special requests are areas that could be improved to elevate the overall dining experience."
"Lucked out in making reservations in the middle of happy hour! Happy hour runs Monday through Friday 3 to 6 with great specials. Food was delicious! Flaky, tasty fish & unique chips. Oysters & mussels were the perfect celebratory dinner. Our server provided lots of helpful information about the types of oysters. She asked if we were military and then proceeded to thank us for our service and applied a discount. The server’s support team (pooled tips) provided efficient, friendly service. Clearing the table promptly, delivering more bread & explaining which oysters were which on the platter. Also offering beer samples & quick refills. Comfortable seats, nicely spaced in a cool setting with festive decorations and a rolling ceiling rack of booze. Street parking was readily available when we arrived at 5 o’clock on a Friday. If you’re looking for a reasonably priced restaurant for a special occasion or for just dining out, Whiskey & Oyster is your place!"
"We stopped here on a whim, and we were happy we did! Bella, our server, was fantastic. She made sure we had the best table in the house. She was super knowledgeable and gave us all the best recommendations. She was friendly, and checked on us regularly to make sure we were happy with everything we ordered. The beer-battered cod fish and chips were light and crispy -the potatoes were perfectly fried. Don’t skip the beignets for dessert. We will be back for happy hour and whiskey Wednesdays!"
