About the Hen Quarter
Hen Quarter is a fun-casual, full-service restaurant located at 801 King Street in Alexandria, Virginia. Specializing in Southern fare, fried chicken, craft cocktails, and brunch, Hen Quarter is inspired by the idea that time is best spent sharing craveable food and delicious drinks with friends and family.
The restaurant's menu was refreshed by local Food Network star Sammy Davis, who brings years of experience and passion to every plate. Drawing influences from various cultures, the menu features dishes such as jerk chicken, gumbo, crab cakes, and short ribs, with Chef Sammy's Signature Banana Pudding as a must-try dessert.
Originally starting as a pop-up, Hen Quarter quickly became Old Town's favorite fried chicken spot, leading to a remodel of the first floor to give the Rub Chicken & Beer the home it deserved. Whether you're looking for drinks, date nights, brunch, or baby showers, Hen Quarter has a table for any occasion.
At Hen Quarter, the belief in the power of the table, gathering, and community is strong, along with a commitment to serving up delicious dishes that are sure to make your Instagram feed jealous.

Reviews of Hen Quarter
"We came here for date night during Restaurant Week...nothing short of Amazing! We were greeted as soon as we came in and sat immediately. We ordered the Deviled Eggs, Brussels Sprouts, Short Rib, Catfish and Grits, Brown Betty, and Banana Pudding. The food was seasoned perfectly and the portions are nice especially when hungry. Shout out to THE BeSt server Jenny from the block Jenniferrrrrrr! So bubbly and excellent service!!! She made us feel so welcome and took the best care of us. The lady she was training was nice too. The manager was very visible and hands on. He checked on us multiple times and supported the team on the floor. Everything was so lovely that we joked about coming back tomorrow lol... great job Hen Quarter and thanks for making our date night so special!"
"Had an absolutely wonderful experience during Alexandria Restaurant Week. The food was amazing, seasoned well, and fresh. Our server Jennifer was great! She checked on us throughout and brought out the items in a timely manner. If you haven't been, make sure to check this place out."
"Went for brunch on Sunday and our group did family style. Let me tell you, the chicken was fried extra crispy with a nice salt and pepper flavor. The waffles were light and fluffy. First toast was really good and the chicken and biscuits had a nice buttery flavor. Nothing was too salty or overly seasoned. Service was impeccable and atmosphere is great for friends and family. There is also accessible parking in the area."
"The manager or person assisting our waiter was really nice and checked on us and recommended a good cocktail BUT food wise the deviled eggs lacked seasoning, my wings looked great and the glaze was nice but when we all bit into the wings the meat was hard and tasted old, the fish on top of the pasta was very salty and the pasta itself was lacking, I did not try the shrimp and grits that another party at our table ordered but they stated that it was average and being from the south they have had better grits, ugh so many misses with the food. I’d return only for a drink at the bar unfortunately….side note my cousin stated she went for brunch one other time and the food as delicious. We went for dinner on a Sunday evening."
"We loved this place! They were busy so we were patient (many reviews for poor service). We didn't mind waiting because the waitress was working hard and the drinks & food were delicious. We had the roasted chicken as well as the chicken & waffles. We had an appetizer of deviled eggs which were amazing! Some reviews say the prices are high but I disagree, the taste and amount say differently as well. The chicken and waffles comes with a large waffle and half a chicken...we had the mix so it had a breast, wing, leg and thigh. The roasted chicken was also a breast, leg and thigh with brocolini and a large portion of mashed potatoes. The deviled egg appetizer had 5 eggs. That's a lot of food! We sat downstairs and had a beer before the 5pm restaurant opened upstairs and the staff was great, we had no issues with them. I could see if you're a person who demands 100% of their attention, 100% of the time you might rate them as poor service but there is other people eating and drinking! The food was absolutely wonderful and we highly recommend this place."
