Reviews of Ashling Kitchen & Bar
"Ashling has been transformed into a “Christmas Wonderland”! The holiday decorations are absolutely gorgeous! I love the new holiday drinks. The fried calamari, cream of crab soup and seafood gumbo were amazing. And the icing on the cake was the pumpkin pie with the lemon custard topping, oh and the whipped cream of course. The greatness of Ashling is back in full effect!"
"This was our first time visiting. Caroline, our server, was fantastic. Very attentive and friendly. She also interacted with my six year old son a lot, which he especially loved. The octopus appetizer was so delicious, as was my French onion soup. The salmon was good, but the glaze was a little too salty. For dessert, we had apple cobbler, which was a nice ending. It was kind of loud due to the noise coming from the enclosed dining area. We were glad not to be sitting in there. We look forward to going again."
"Great location. Modern decor and wonderful service. The handcrafted drinks are delicious and the drink menu offers a nice variety. "The Heat" is a nice take on a spicy margarita. The food however left something to be desired. We started the meal with the roasted brussel sprouts which were delicious but the addition of the cashews seemed unnecessary. The lobster mac and cheese is phenomenal. Too often you see something has lobster in it and you're picking through looking for the meat not here it was meat heavy which made for an enjoyable bite. I wish I could say the same for the entrees. We had the shrimp and grits and the whiskey glazed salmon. The shrimp and grits confused me; it came topped with a pile of fired onions that were cold, and unedable, a few were burnt, and the plate was drizzled with some kind of herb oil. The gravy overpowered everything and the shrimp themselves while a nice size had no seasoning. The salmon had so much glaze on it you lost the flavor of the fish. Overall it's a great casual no fuss kind of spot, they do have a Sunday brunch which seems to be popular. As for dinner I would stick with the appetizers."
"Had dinner here on a Tuesday evening. There were 5 in our dinner party. We had made reservations so it enabled us to be seated immediately upon arriving. We had appetizers, very tasty even though the Fried Green Tomatoes arrived after the others. Our main entrees consisted of Seafood Gumbo which had huge lumps of crabmeat and jumbo shrimp. The gumbo should come with a warning. It was VERY spicy!! Other entrees ordered were the crabcake sandwiches with fries. I was told they were good and a Kale and Quinoa Salad with added shrimp. Salad contained strawberries, grapes and pecans. A piece of Smith Island Chocolate cake was ordered to go. Our server Pesh apologized for not being very attentive. Due to staffing shortage (which seems to be the norm these days) and a very full restaurant she still did a great job!!"
"Reservations and prompt seating always make a difference in a food experience for me. The customer service was impeccable. Our server was phenomenal. The drinks were good and food was great! We ordered the calamari and spinach dip, both were delish. For my entree I had the quarter jerk chicken, rice and peas, and plantain. My cousin had the Rasta pasta. This is NOT a Caribbean restaurant but they executed those two dishes well. They have various fares, so whatever tickles your fancy palette you can find. They have steak, meatloaf, fried chicken sandwiches, tacos, and more. You won’t be disappointed. Everything came out quickly, hot, and seasoned to perfection. I highly recommend and I will definitely be back."
